Question for those that might know

Concerning Conner McCaffrey playing in the PTL. what's the protocol for a coach's son in such a league? Can Fran be in attendance to watch? Rules/restrictions? I half expected him to play this year. Is there an age limit to the PTL? Thanks. I've seen many games over the years but never got into the rules/regs.

I don't think PTL has many "rules"...at least judging by the stats some of the Hawkeye players put up! :)

Funny, I'm still not clear on who can/can't play in PTL, nor how it is set up in terms of who coaches/directs the teams, etc. I believe there is some sort of "draft", but that's about all I know.

I believe the OP's question relates to NCAA rules about contact by college coaches. If Dad-Coach attends his son's game, are NCAA rules fully in effect for any contact with high school players including his own kid.

I'm not sure on the rules but I doubt Conner would play in the PTL until his summer after HS graduation.

Realistically the NCAA can not stop a coach from pretty much anything with his own son. Father/son relationship trumps NCAA regulations.... No HS players can play in the PTL. That would be an automatic recruiting violation for Iowa and UNI I'm sure. Ther is a draft. Only 2 current players from each D-1 team (Iowa,UNI) can be on the same PTL team. Incoming freshman or transfers that have not played with the team do not count. So you can have 2 players that played last year along with a juco transfer coming in to the team etc etc.

The more interesting thing that these questions make me think of is- How can the NCAA regulate what Conner says to other recruits? Typically any recruits that are considering Iowa can speak freely and/or try to recruit other players to come to a school with them. This could give Fran an interesting vantage point with kids he is recruiting in Conner's class (especially considering that Conner is a top 25 prospect). This vantage point also could be sitting on a slippery slope as far as recruiting violations go. Is there any special rules for this situation. I'm sure it's nowhere near the first time this has come up, but also not an incredibly common situation...... Conner could potentially have a huge impact on other kids. He will be a very good automatic piece for Iowa to build a great team around

Coaches can't be in attendance regardless of their kid being there. Same situation happened with McDermott at Iowa State.
