Question for Jon

First of all, just want to say I enjoy the hell out of your podcasts....just listened to the latest one. Not sure I understand your "fans not having goodwill" because of last year statement. It's really not that quick of a rush to judgement, if you take into account that Iowa has actually gone 3-4 over it's last 7 games. And the previous 12 were against terrible competition. Having seemingly been so close to being rid of KF after 2014 only to have him pull his smoke and mirrors trick again, it is the thought of being on the front end of enduring the same BS again (when the extension was NOT necessary)is what has fans pissed this quick. Seriously, what 2 1/2 star recruit was KF going to lose by not being locked up for another decade? And we are the butt of jokes nationally(see below) as well...and rightly so. This season may be somewhat tolerable given last years "goodwill" had the extension not been given. But it was, and we are in deep S all over again!!!

Didn't Jon write an article late last year apologizing for doubting Cirk?? My wife asked me why I was laughing. I told her I just read a "jinx" article by someone who should know better. Right after that article the winning ways dried up and Kirk's program reverted back to its true self.

Before this season, the contract Iowa athletic director Gary Barta gave to Kirk Ferentz following Iowa’s 2009 campaign looked more like an albatross than a shrewd move.

What if I suggested that very contract wound up saving Iowa from itself? Wound up actually saving Iowa from making a mistake, kept Iowa from doing what so many other programs might have done following the 7-6 record of 2014?

Isn’t that an ironic twist?

Uhhhhhh, I have to disagree with Jon. I wish he would write a new article about how the new contract has set the program back to a time when Iowa was worse than NW.

(the jinx) EDIT: http://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sp...r-wrong-about-hawkeyes-kirk-ferentz/76420518/

Great American prophet Arthur Fonzarelli, aka "The Fonz," had a difficult time saying "I was wrong."

He’d hang on the "wr…wro…wro" part and it never quite came out right.

I’ve never had a problem admitting such things and have always believed it better to be the one to come out and own up to it before your critics could beat you to the punch.

So without any hesitation, I say "Kirk Ferentz, I was wrong." How so? Let me count the ways.

Uhhhhh, no Jon, you weren't wrong. But you did want the popular kid to like you. And so you wrote an article asking for his forgiveness.

You don't base contracts on outliers. Last season was an outlier and we all knew it. I think Barta is a double agent whose only goal is to keep Kirk employed.

We all knew it was going to come back to this. Thus the immediate reaction to a horrible contract extension and an AD that thinks 7 wins is acceptable. I expected the goodwill to be gone, I just thought it was going to be next year. I really thought we'd be 9-3 at worse and we still could be but this team is badddd right now. I should have known better though, when the expectations are high, Iowa falls flat 9 out of 10 times. And a coaching style like Kirk's makes it that much easier for it to happen.
