QB Daniel Jones

Interesting article in the WSJ today about QB Daniel Jones for the NY Giants, from Duke and how easily QB talent is overlooked in college recruiting but also in the NFL. Late bloomers with room for development are often-times "steals" of recruiting and the NFL draft. I think Stanley might fall under this umbrella on the next level. Good coaching, in the right environment, with patience, could work out to be a win/win for him and select teams. And for Iowa as well.

I watched several NFL games yesterday and was amazed at some of the poor QB play compared to what I've seen from Stanley so far this year ... a couple examples ...

Josh Allen for Buffalo was 13-28 for 153 yds, 0 TDs and 3 INTs.
Dwayne Haskins for the Redskings was 9-17, 107 yds, 0 TD and 3 INTs.

I'm not saying Stanley is a sure thing to start in year 1 but he could definitely be a serviceable backup.

Its all about where you land, imo
Neither of the qbs you mentioned have anything for supporting cast.

Haskins isnt throwing against outmatched teams anymore.

Stanley has the physical gifts, it would come down to if he can wrap his head around the nfl game and is put in a good position to succeed. Back up a solid starter for a year or two and he could get a shot.

I'm not saying Allen's great, or Stanley has no shot, but I don't think Miami(OH), ISU, Rutgers, or MTSU have quite the defense the Pats have. Maybe I'm wrong.

Those NFL defenders are a bit quicker than Middle TN.

Packers/Patriots perhaps, 3rd round steal

Once in the NFL a lot of them lose the ability to just out talent everyone. The one's who can learn how NFL defenses work are the one who stick.

And this makes me wonder why some teams arent trying to trade for Beathard who I thought did pretty good when he had to start for the 49ers. I think he got a couple of wins and at that time the offensive line was like a sieve.

Bears could use him now as a backup to Daniels. Sound like Trubisky could be out for quite a while with a dislocated left shoulder and labrum damage.

Yep growing up in Des Moines the Bears and the Chiefs from the old AFL and still now in the AFC are my two top teams. It has been a long drought cheering for both of them. The Chiefs just need to get that big win and get into a super bowl.

I love Stanley and the fact that Daniel jones is starting proves to me Nate has a chance. However after seeing some of these backup are horrible. Matt Barkley yesterday for one. I’m confident mate Stanley could have practiced for the bills for one week and played better.

The 49ers are waiting for another #1 to go down...so they can maximize what they can get for Beathard. I'm not so sure they wouldn't trade Mullins though. Beathard has a much better arm...is a better leader...and has some intangibles (like sprinting down the field ahead of a running back to throw a block that gets him in the endzone).

Beathards a gamer and the 49ers know it. Unfortunately...he played when the 49ers oline was having all kinds of issues and they were playing top tier teams...when Mullins took over, he got a couple of wins against cupcakes.

Three things are certain; death, taxes, and the chiefs choking in the playoffs.
Andy Reid just cements that deeper

Not a Chiefs fan, but let's get Otis Taylor into the Hall of Fame while he is still alive to enjoy it.

Taylor was a prototype of the modern receiver, very similar to TO, Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. Many teams in the sixties didn't take chances on players who came from small colleges in the south, like Taylor, and when they did they changed their positions. Teams that did draft them, like the Chiefs, Raiders, Cowboys and Steelers, dominated the NFL for much of the late sixties and seventies.
