Purdue - our crossover rival?? really?

since when is Iowa vs Purdue a rivalry?

soo if this were a high school dance, some of the teams started pairing off with the pretty girls, and we messed around in the corner too long and got stuck dancing with the ugly girl....

yikes...I think it was literally...ok so it's osu/mich - wisc/minn -- ill/nw - ind/msu and psu/neb...and oh crap...what are we gonna do with Iowa and Purdue...?

Penn st and Nebby obviously pulled their weight on this one...

the only good thing is..I guess...it's one more easy W every year...

Three of the best conference games of the last decade were Iowa v. Purdue. That being said, think of it as an annual game in a recruiting area that brought us AJ Edds and Jewel Hampton over a rivalry game.

We sold the house to lock down Nebby. It was worth it.

With the big 4 out of the way (mu v osu and nu v psu) you're left with wisconsin and minnesota, illinois v northwestern as locks. would you rather have indiana or purdue.

this one was easy. it's the best option. period.

Purdoody has that giant drum that they drag around. That's kinda cool, right?
Maybe we can get our band an even gianter drum, and that would be the basis for the rivalry?
Or we could just make that silly drum the "trophy" for the rivalry - whoever wins the FB game gets the drum.
:D

Purdue owns the overall record 45 to 33. Plus they put lots of QB's in the league. Don't count on it as a win. The record in the 2000's is Iowa 5, Purdue 3. Not exactly one-sided.

I agree and a few of our wins could've really gone either way. Facing Purdue always makes me feel uneasy.

i was just going to say the same thing. It's not like Purdue has just rolled over for Iowa. Does anyone remember the Purdue game 2008 in Kinnick? And this was a very good team that we had, v. a Purdue team with a QB coming back from injury playing part of the game, and the back up playing part. Came down to the last play with Purdue having the chance to win.

Purdue and Iowa were the only two teams without true rivalries. Michigan State and Inidana is a trophy game, so that was going to happen. OSU/Michigan.....'nuff said, and same goes for PSU/Nebraska. Northwestern and Illinois made perfect sense, they're in-state rivals. And Wisky/Minny is a trophy game, plus it's the oldest rivalry in CFB. That left Iowa and Purdue. It's not so much that we "messed around in the corner for too long when they paired up dancing partners at the prom". It's more that Purdue and Iowa showed up to the prom without dates, while everyone else had theirs locked up WAAAAY in advance.

It is true that Purdue hasn't exactly rolled over for us the last few years but I think Iowa came out pretty good in this transaction. I will take a locked game with Purdue over a locked game with Wiscy.
