PTL

Just to move the board along to other topics, I thought I'd jump ahead to the PTL. I think that this could be an even more interesting PTL than last year. The improvement of Basabe, Brommer and White and McCabe's work on the weights, getting to see the other new players, all on display.

Two questions:
1) How many players will participate this year?

2) What do you hope to see in the PTL this summer?

I was thinking, that if McCabe hit the weights.Could he turn into a better shooting Brunner? That would help with our inside game. Brunner was one of my favorite alltime Hawks, like to see us with another blue-collar hard working rebounder,i know thats not McCabes forte~ but could he turn into that type of player? he has the body for it

Yes, PTL should be especially interesting this year with as many as 5 newcomers to check out.
Last year, the concensus out of PTL is that Melsahn was a stud(spot on),Marble had potential but was thin and still maturing(spot on) and McCabe was gritty, but needed polishing(spot on). A lot of fans mock PTL results as non-indicative of actual performance in season, but I think it is usually a very good indicator of a players potential to compete in the regular season.
When Tyler Smith came in,he dominated PTL...and he was just that good.
Melsahn? same deal.
Now,Eric May had his swerve on last year in PTL and then started that way in the season, but got hurt, then lost some confidence. But,he did lead Iowa in scoring until he got hurt.
So yes,I am excited for PTL to get here, and all the eye-witness reports of our developing young players and the newcomers.

Not sure McCabe needs to hit the weights. IMO he needs to trim down and gain a step, or he will have a hard time getting on the floor as the talent around him improves. Adding bulk doesn't help the slow of foot, unless he is doing some serious speed /agility training in addition to weights.

Should be an interesting PT.....

Archie-Can he show some offensive skills?
Stokes-What can he do?
Oglesby-Would like to see his whole arsenal.
White-Anxious to see his hops.
Hubbard-Just want to see his game.

I am more interested in seeing the newcomers, as our existing guys will get theirs just because of the format in the PTL.

I agree on McCabe. He doesn't need to get any bigger, just work on the attitude and up his overall game and he will be a tough player. Lots of upside to McCabe.

I agree with all the others, too.
Archie has some skills, he needs play to his strengths.
Stokes, exactly what can he do? I would love it if he can give us some minutes in the future. Although, he is probably going to be another year off.
Oglesby- work on that 3.
White & Hubbard - definitely can't wait to see their games!

Marble & May they, along with McCabe, need to improve. It will be interesting to see them develop. The 3Ms are my key to 2011-2012. Gatens, Cartwright & Mel form our nucleus, but McCabe, May & Marble are the supporting cast. Their improvement will be huge in determining how many more games we win next year. Unless, of course, they are beat out by White & Hubbard. Which is very possible!

Next year is going to be fun! PTL is a good screenshot of what we can expect.

Go Hawks!
