PTL stock report

sorry about the link as it isn't working as I had some trouble coping and posting that article. It can be found over on hawkeye report. It sums up the writers impressions of what he saw and his take on some of the incoming players.

i tried it again but it still not working. It is a free rivals article that you have to subscribe to I order to read the rest of it but it gave a good summation of the new guys and who might see some minutes this upcoming season and what their strengths are.

Yep and I think some of these new guys may be able to contribute right away. I am anxious to see the point guard who couldn't play in the PTL. Sounds like he is pretty good. I am also hoping Jok can blow up at the guard position. The guards are the key to this season. Also would like to see Woody be the premier center in the league. Not expecting that from Woody but at the same time I am not saying he can't do it.

Woody looks like he has matured a lot physically since last year.

I certainly hope so. This was the class that when recruited looked to be a Future B1G contender in their senior year and that was before Uthoff came into the picture. If Jok can display on a consistent basis what scouts thought they were seeing before he got hurt, Well then this could be a very special year for the HAWKEYE program. Also hoping Moss can spread the pond also. :)

People need to forget about about Joks ranking as a freshman in high school. It's not relevant.

That injury has been over for years.

Any improvements he makes at this point are going to come from him putting in work just like everyone else.

I disagree. His explosion can definitely still be lacking due to the injury. While other people were developing naturally, he wasn't. All his time has been spent getting ready physically ready to even be able to play basketball. Then he had to get mentally right to trust his knees. Gaining more explosion comes last and it could very well still be happening.

Absolutely true for everyone. This team is going to need a leader that rises to the top and becomes the guy that carries the team in crunch time. My two top choices are first Jok and then Uthoff. I think both have the capacity to do this. White had flashes of this in certain games last year but his outside shooting limited him at times.

Uthoff brings that outside threat and if he has muscled up in the off season he could be a force under the basket also. Would like to see both of them blow up and give opposing defenses fits. They have a good core of supporting players around them also which should help considerably. My third guy would be Woodbury as the center position can be as significant as the guard position.......... Case in point look at Wisconsin last year. It's going to be fun to see who rises up on this team to be the go to guy and a true leader. Maybe a freshman will surprise.

I think all the seniors have the personalities to be leaders on this years team. I can see Uthoff being a little laid back, but Gesell, Woodbury, and Clemmons don't impress me that way. I think Fran has gotten on Uthoff to being more aggressive. I think they should be a lot of fun to watch this year. As far as the freshmen, Fleming and Hutton don't seem to be shrinking violets.

The very Fact that Iowa has 4 Senior, players with tons of experience is a big deal.

I believe I read that Iowa will be one of the most Veteran teams in the Big10 conference
& maybe all of the NCAA. Veteran laden team usually do very, very well.

I couldn't agree more and that is why this year's team will be very important to Fran's future success at Iowa and to his legacy as an Iowa basketball coach. I expect that good things are coming.

Big D... I totally agree w/what you've said, this year will be a catalyst for Fran & Co......senior laden team will only make the newbies better as they further their careers here, and that will continue to help w/recruits and the process of getting better looks from higher ranked high school kids.....I believe the tables are turning a little in Iowa's favor as they continue to creep towards the top of the B1G....I never want to wish time away, but, man, I can't wait for the season to start.....

I agree 100% PC. Confidence is the most important aspect in playing basketball, other than having the actual talent. A lack of confidence can completely change a players approach and even their "want to" make plays when on the court. I saw more explosiveness in Jok's PTL vids I saw this year over last years.

I know a guy who saw Jok in a gym in west des moines this summer. Said he saw him jump up and dunk it with no effort.

That surgery was like 4 years ago. No way is he still recovering.

If hes going to improve his explosiveness its going to come from strength training at this point.

But what I'm saying is most guys his age are a lot closer to their ceilings as far as explosiveness goes. I agree he is 100% recovered, but not being able to work in explosiveness for a few years because of the injury probably still has him behind.

Having suffered injuries before I can tell you that it can take a while before you totally let go of it mentally and fly again with reckless abandonment and have no fear, especially when making a similar movement that caused the injury. Once you clear that mental hurdle then you are able to go with out thought or worry.

Exactly, BigD. And let's not forget that Jok had ankle issues after surgery, on top of (reportedly) coming back too quickly after the surgery. Then, he's a FR at Iowa and doesn't get a whole bunch of PT. Then last year, the team was too deep for him to play half a game or more.
