PTL Preview Primer for Tonight

Not sure why. No UNI, no Duez, no Moore and some teams with only one scholarship Hawk and even one of those might just have that player for one game.

While the excitement for this year's Hawk team should be high. PTL is dramatically watered down this year.

No Duez last year, No UNI last year. People still showed up and filled the gym. Jaryd Cole and Ali F. were the 2 biggest 'names' last year, but that's not who people go to see. They go to see the Hawkeyes new (Jok), healthy (Gessel), and hopefully improved (Meyer, Uthoff, etc.).

Could not agree more, but then again, the PTL is nothing more than a slightly more organized / twice a week rec game that tells us absolutely nothing about our Hawkeyes. Competition does not exist. Zero defense is played. Zero "team ball" is played. So, does it really matter?

With the NCAA limit of two returning players per team and the large group of new players, last year presented a much better opportunity to see current and future Hawks play with each other. Just not the same this year.

Who goes to PTL games to see UNI players? Who goes to see a deep field? I go to PTL games for two reasons: 1. To see incoming Hawks 2. To see the growth of current Hawks. End of story.

PTL is interesting when Iowa is good and we have intriguing recruits coming in. That's it.
