PTL Interviews, Highlights and Stats from 6/19

Nice to see Devyn assert himself. If he turns into a legit starting B1G swingman, that could be the piece of the puzzle that pushes the Hawks into the top half of the conference.

Seems like all eyes were on Hub. Not much focus on White. However, that might change when Matt and Mel show up.

Pretty much what I have expected from Ogelsby. It will take time for him to find a niche.

Wouldn't it be amazing if Archie could finish out with a Tate-like senior year? I said when Lick brought him in that the only way he becomes a key contributor for the Hawks is if he redshirted the first year. Because he needed a year to learn how to play and a year of limited action.

Everyone attacked me for it. Then the injury came and he did RS. However, last year I was becoming less and less convinced he could turn into that player. But he showed signs of life against Purdue and now the wait looks like it might have been worth it.

I am encouraged by Devyn's comments about shooting 1000 jump shots and weight room work daily. Those were the two most glaring weaknesses in his game. He absolutely needs to be able to knock down open shots from the arc..along with Matt,Eric,McCabe and Oglesby. The Hawks need to shoot better from the perimeter, period,if they want to move up this year. I think they will, because all of these guys came in as shooters. It will make a world of difference if they can just raise their 3 pt shooting from a league last 28% to 34-35%. It will open it up for Mel,and Brommer in the paint, and driving lanes for Bryce.

I am thinking that a 10 man rotation of:

Cartwright,Gatens,Hubbard,Basabe,Brommer
Marble,Oglesby,May,McCabe,Archie

if,healthy, would be about as many as can get significant minutes.
If Aaron and Gabe push into that group, fine, but it is hard to play 12 guys.
Would not mind if one of these two redshirted,if they are not breaking into the top 10. Both are big men who need bulking up,I presume.
It will be interesting to see how they meld into a group going forward.

I think we'd be more likely to see White in that top 10 rotation than Oglesby.

White keeps saying he is a three, but people keep thinking of him as a 4. It will be interesting to see what he develops into. If he turns out to be a four, he probably will need a year to bulk up. But I wouldn't count him out at the three.

Three is getting a little crowded with Hubbard, Marble (although he calls himself a two) May and potentially White.

The four is basically Basabe and McCabe. White should try to bulk up and make his mark there.

Unless May learns how to dribble and doesn't look like a deer in the headlights every time he touches the ball, he could see less and less playing time.
