PTL Highlights and Evaluation: Cordell Pemsl

One thing I noticed is how well he finishes around the rim. Something a lot of Iowa big have struggled with in the past. He not only makes the shot, it seems like they always go off the backboard and hit nothing but net. Very under control.

Thanks Rob for the basketball updates. A lot of interesting pieces being added to the team. It should be fun watching them develop. Go Hawks!

I've stayed away from trying to evaluate Pemsl. The kid has had bad luck with the injuries. I was impressed with what I saw at the PTL games. He's a big boy and a lot of post players will have trouble with him down low, if he asserts himself. I just hope he can stay healthy and it's not because we need him. He deserves a few injury free years. I hope he gets them.

I think Pemsl will be a badass Hawkeye when it is all said and done. He and Cook went at it the 3rd game of PTL and it was a good battle, with Pemsl's team winning. Cordell is a ballplayer, no question.

As Rob mentioned, his handles are great. I would not be surprised if you see him taking the ball up the court as a point forward on occasion. Do not be surprised seeing him lead the fast break down the court, or throwing it ahead for an easy basket. His passing & vision are very good.

Cordell will contribute as a freshman. I suspect quiet a bit. I have him pegged as the 2nd most important (true)freshman this year. He might not be 2nd in minutes(I have a feeling Jordan will get quite a few minutes at backup PG), but his value will be 2nd to only Cook in what should be a (hopefully) deep front court... He will have a memorable Iowa career. Count on it.
