Woody also threw down a dunk. Wasn't a very impressive dunk but he did get it in. I also read where Woody played every minute of the game including overtime. Says he's ready to play more minutes this year. Going to need those minutes. Just can't be getting those moving screens out on the perimeter.

Agree with this. He's good at hedging, just over does it too often.

I'm not saying Gesell is going to be all-world or anything, but I really think his arm injury hindered him a lot last season. I'm anxious to see a healthy Gesell this year.

I just don't see how we're not a better team next year.

just being devil's advocate, here, but I just don't see what we are going to do at the 16 minute mark of the first half, when Woody has to sit down with his 2nd foul? What are we going to do at Center?

Ditto the 2nd half, when Woody picks up #3 at the 18 minute mark?

Hopefully, our Juco surprises us.

I don't think there is much affect offensively. Might even create a spark at times. But that will hurt big time on defense I think. Probably see more zone against teams with skilled bigs.

Woody had some good looking turn around jumpers. If Dale Jones can shoot 40 % from 3 with that bad of shot selection, that's a good sign. He looks like he can fire it every time he touches the ball. Hutton looks explosive as hell. I'm really excited to see him play.

I think Woodbury is a smart enough player to realize that he doesn't have his Olaseni insurance policy this year and he is going to have to be smarter with his fouls.

Woodbury is going to be an experienced player for Iowa. Gesell, Uthoff, and Clemmons are going to know what they are doing too. They should be able to take advantage of some of the younger players in the league.

Mike Gesell is a NCAA Academic All American.
He is a Senior, maybe already graduated, now taking Grad school classes.

He had some outstanding games, last year. And, I think he is going to have a
Super senior season for the Hawkeyes.

I'm not sure what happened to his shot, maybe injuries, but for the last couple years he'sbeen shooting line drives. Has anyone noticed if he got his arch back on it? It just seems like he has it in him to be a really good shooter but for some reason he lost his shot.

I went and watched the early game with Hutton and Jones. Jones can hit NBA 3 pt shots but He didn't play any defense. Not sure if that's because of the PTL game or because of his knee. He was wearing an ACL type of knee brace.
Hutton is an explosive athlete. He has a nice set shot from 3 pt range. He needs to slow down a little bit. Because he is quick and explosive, his mid range shot is off because he's moving a little fast. He doesn't really square up. He did play defense! He plays the kind of defense that is going to attract a lot of fouls early in his career. I think he'll play some minutes as a FR.

There are a lot of guys that work hard on defense then don't learn to slow down for their offense. That could be one of Gesells problems too. Jones apparently doesn't have to worry about it yet.

I've watched a couple of his PTL vids and MG looks like he could have a break out season, scoring-wise. I'm gonna climb out on a limb and say he avg's 15-17 and is 2nd team all B1G at a minimum. I agree, he played with only 1 arm last season, but even so, he was almost money getting to the rim and his mid-range jumper was there.
