Protected rivalries IA vs PSU vs NB

How does Nebraska rate a protected rivalry vs PSU over Iowa? Besides the past few great years between IA and PSU, there are the incredible games of the Hayden Fry era vs Penn St.
I just don't see how Nebbie rates a protected rivalry over that history and tradition. A mistake was made here. One that I think that will be paid for by horrific Nebbie schedules the next few years and at the cost of a traditional rivalry that has developed between IA and PSU.

Because Nebraska & PSU are both in the top ten all-time winningest programs, them being protected rivals was a foregone conclusion.

PSU and Nebby are bigger draws than anything that Iowa could provide. Deal with it.

are you arguing that you would rather play a harder schedule every year? I am fine with it as Barta said we were the last 2 teams standing so Purdue and Iowa it is. Im fine with not having to play PSU every year, that woulda meant some years we play Mich, Nebby, OSU, PSU and wiscy, not fun for 8 games. This way we only play Mich, Nebby and have a chance to miss 2 of those 3 other "big" teams in the other division

C'mon, Nebraska vs Penn State annually is a no-brainer. The conference has 4 of the all-time top-10 programs, and HAS to showcase that.

Why does it have to be at the expense of history and tradition? Isn't that what the conference is trying to protect?

Does Nebby-PSU have the same cachet when Joe Pa is no longer coach of the Nittany Lions (and, for that matter, Osborne is no longer associated with the Huskers)?

Seriously, it's not like we have some long standing rivalry with Penn State, it's foolish to think that we do. Do they want revenge on us? Sure. But once they get it, PSU fans aren't going to care nearly as much about playing Iowa as they do now.

Nebraska and Penn State are true NATIONAL programs. We're in the spotlight right now because we've got a good thing going. But we are NOT national programs. People around the nation don't give a rip about what going on with the Iowa program when we aren't good. But schools like Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Florida State, Miami, Penn State (all schools who have suffered some down years or just flat out mediocrity in some cases recently), people care about them no matter what. Those are the teams that people want to know: when are they going to be BACK? We don't get viewed in that light, plain and simple.

Yes, guys. PSU people think about as much of our rivalry with them as we do about our rivalry with Northwestern.

We got the freaking year end game with Nebraska! Probably only UM and OSU didn't try to get that game. We even trump PSU, because we have the last game. Get over it.

It's a given that a program in the top ten for all-time wins is going to have some history behind it.
