"There is hereby an excess profits tax imposed on any football coach who is an employee of any state university of 100% of all income in excess of $2 million when said coach's team finishes with 7 wins or fewer in the regular season."

Repubs, Dems, can we agree to enact this tax at the State level? Get the legislature on it.

Yawn. Really stretching for something here OK4P.

The following statement is meant neither as a criticism or an endorsement of Coach Ferentz, but considering how much of his pay he donates right back to the university, this wouldn't work unless it is an above the line tax.

Let's just get off of the $$ talk. Even if he were making $1 million we'd still be honked.

Said tax should be evenly split among the fan base. That way all of us will be happy and have a reason to route for "mediocre seasons".

What ever happened to pay for performance? You get a base salary of $1,000,000 frigging dollars and that's a heck of a lot until the Federal Reserve completely devaluates the $ which is another problem entirely.

Then you get another $1,000,000 frigging dollars if you reach the B1G championship game (you don't even have to win it) and another $1,000,000 frigging dollars if you reach a BCS game (you don't even have to win it) and another $1,000,000 if you reach the NC game (you don't even have to win it)

Want to EARN $4,000,0000????? Easy, win a NC. If you go 7-5 every year, you get to keep your $1,000,000 dollars which should be plenty!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe drop a few coins in the red kettle for those less fortunate than a 'football' coach. Maybe shed a tear for thos students that can't afford to repay their student loan debt paid to build your liberal progressive ivory tower of education

Negatory, ghost rider, but if I did, I would call my legislator on Monday. I have a lot of family in Iowa and think it is a shame what that robber baron in Iowa City is doing to the University's Athletic Department and folks (including me) who have to "donate" to the football program to get tickets.

You do know Ferentz pay doesnt come from tax payer money right?

You had me right until those last few words, then you lost me.

These paycheck conversations are just dumb. Having a stable coaching staff tends to yield success. We are buying stability with the $4M. If you want to be a cheapskate then get comfortable with a new coach/scheme/recruits every 3-5 years.

You are right. We are buying stability, We will be stable in the bottom half of the B10.Middle of the pack every year with boring games.
Great.....I cant wait.

I'd prefer a graduated rebate based upon regular season wins. The rebate would apply to season ticket holders and would include parking space money as well as contribution and "seat" donations.

10+ wins, no rebate

9 wins, 5% rebate

8 wins 10% rebate

7 wins, 20% rebate
(You can clearly see the line of demarcation here.....7 wins is "OK" for us Iowans)

6 wins 50% rebate

5 or fewer, 100% rebate

Just curious. If KF does stay at Iowa and retires in 10 years. He certainly qualifies for full IPERS. What pertcentage of his 3+Million salary is on the dole for IPERS. I'm also not a state employee, so what percentage does a retiree get for a IPERS pension? Is it like 68% of final 3 years salary?
