Previewing, Predicting Hawkeyes in the '18 NFL Draft

Great read Rob. I’d call josh to Carolina and Daniels to Cincy (I think bills trade up)

Thanks for reading. Those are solid predictions. I've seen multiple mocks with Josh to Carolina and Daniels to Cincy. I think quite a few have the latter.

I'm confident I'll be wrong but it's fun to guess.

I like Buffalo or Cinci for Daniels. Wouldn't be surprised to see Josh go to the Seahawks or Patriots. Hoodie's dbs didn't hold up very well in the Super Bowl.

Great article. I can see the Pats snapping up Welsh ... he'd be a good fit there. He will get a chance somewhere.

I just saw one mock that had Boettger going in the 6th round. I thought the conventional wisdom was that he wouldn't get drafted?

It's really so hard to say at that point in the draft. Some of it is reliant on what teams picked earlier in the draft and needs. It only takes one team to like you. Few saw CJB going where he did last year.

So true, and nobody thought D. King would fall to the 5th round or wherever he was taken.

Can't wait! Hoping that Daniels falls to the Eagles at #32, but I highly doubt that'll happen. I can wish though! :D

The question seems to be who will go higher, Jackson or Daniels.
My prediction is, there is a very good chance they both get taken in the first 25.
Any team looking for a starter or very solid 2 deep in either position should and probably will jump by then.
I have no idea, and nobody does until later who is trading up or down, so it's difficult to say who will end up with what slot or how many slots in the first 25, so I won't speculate on what teams.

I sure hope Wadley finds a good fit. It sounds like it's a deep class of RBs but it might be the 2nd round before the 2nd RB even comes off the board. Sure be interesting if he went to the Redskins and he got reunited with Leshun Daniels again and who's to say the Redskins don't take the other Daniels too? They could have quite the Hawkeye flavor over there with Scherff already there too.

To take a left hand turn anyone see how the 49ers and Lions play this year? CJ and Rudock going head to head as clipboard holders. I've never heard any negative words between those guys so I'm a tad curious to see them meet up and what their relationship may be.

I would say Wadely is mid 6th to a late 7th rounder.
He could surprise, because he has speed and vision, but, and I hate to say it, needs another year gaining weight and in the s&c program.
Anyone looking to add depth in the 2 deep in 2019 would be a fool not to take a baller like that and is a steal between the rounds I mentioned.

Here is the Register's piece on draftable prospects from all of the in-state schools.

One thing I found interesting: Lazard is picked anywhere from 3rd to 7th round, I thought he would be a bit higher (Daurice Fountain, a WR from UNI is picked to go higher, 3rd/4th round).

Who goes first, Lazard or Wadley?

I thought there'd be more love for Lazard than I've heard too. As big as he is and productive as he was it really surprises me because I don't think he's terribly slow. 6'5 225 lb receivers don't grow on trees and have value in the redzone if nothing else. Both of them could slip to 6th or later or who knows. Nobody and I mean nobody thought CJ was going to get taken in the 3rd rd last yr so there's no figuring this out

The problem I see is that as college teams become more air raid and less pro set, there is a plethora of wr's, so one really has to stand out. They put up numbers and even test well at the combine and pro days, but many lack any semblance of play time in a pro set however. Nature of the beast, I guess.
That said he is a good target and athlete.
But kind of still a projection at the next level.
Wadley just needs a year to add a little mass and while he is doing that study the play book and he will be ready to rock and roll. That helps him. As I said he has the speed and awesome vision already, combined with playing on a team that prepares players for the next level.

Both need work (although different types of work) and could possibly end up in the same round or there abouts. 6-7 Both have a shot at the 5th, but I would say that's a tight race between the two.
