Preview, Prediction: Iowa-NW at Wrigley

I think it's as good a thread as any, but I'll add as much as I love Wrigley it's not a football stadium. This tradition of putting games in historic venues needs to end. If you can't incorporate a full size field in its entirety then it shouldn't even be a consideration. They can't even get both teams sidelines right. I'm sorry but yes as a baseball stadium, but absolutely not as a football stadium. It needs to end.

Wrigley is an absolute dump that reeks of piss, vomit and despair. I can think of no better venue to host the beginning of the Brian Ferentz Farewell Tour.

LOL those very smells that mirror those coming from our offense. You're right. Match made in heaven. Let's hope for some good results.

Iowa has statistical advantages over NW in two areas, defense and special teams. The deference isn't that great on defense where NW is currently 50th nationally and Iowa 19. Offensively NW has scored 33 or more points in 3 of its games and Iowa only has 1. It scored 13 vs PSU and Iowa got 0. It outscored MN 37 to 34. Iowa vs Mn 10 points by the Hawks. Against Neb they only scored 9. NW passing yardage per game is 207.6 yards per game vs Iowa's 81.4.

Overall Northwestern has improved as the season has progressed and Iowa has slid backwards. I see this as 24 to 6 win by NW. When you don't have a QB that can run or pass you don't have a QB.

Unfortunately i see this as a NW win as well, maybe 17 to 13. There simply isn’t a rallying point for our anemic offense. Of course, my predictions are nearly always wrong.

69-2 Iowa. Deacon throws 4 TDs, Labas throws 3. We take an intentional safety after a late interception on the 1 yard line.

I also don't know what to expect ... I've seen some really good Iowa teams lose to mediocre NwU teams in Evanston. I've also seen some Iowa teams take care of the Cats, like they should 9 of 10 times.

My biggest concerns are the bye - Hawks rarely show "improvement" coming off a bye - and the prospect that what looks to be a good weather day for football can turn crappy, quickly off Lake Michigan.

If Hawks dump the passing game and get "really creative" during the bye - i.e. run outside the fvck!ng tackleso_O - they win. Minny game plan with it all depending on the QB and they lose.

The Wrigley aspect tends to nullify the weather concern. It also adds the intangible - Kirk LOVES baseball!

I'm going Hawks in a baseball score: 3 field goals to 1 touchdown.

I think Iowa runs the ball for more than 100 yards Saturday.
But I can't tell you if they win or not.

Right before the game KF announces BF is gone, Jon Butmyr is the new OC, Labas is starting at QB and Iowa proceeds to run a whole new set of offensive plays then..

Iowa ends up winning 10-6 with the only TD being defensive return for a TD.

Iowa's record after a bye week hasn't been great as of late - or at least that's what I remember in my head

Well, I have front row seats somewhere. I love Wrigley and am excited to see a wonky football game played there.

Heard no beer sales. Boo.

Will there be a 7th inning stretch? If so, when do they do it, do they sing "Take me out to the ballgame" or something else, and who sings?

Playing this in Wrigley is insane. It should be played on a football field. The Big should step in and fix it but it is too late.

Yes, the whole idea is so dumb! Those sight lines look terrible. You got Soldier Field right down the road built for NFL games. If it's on somebody's bucket list to go to Wrigley, then you got 81 Cubs games a year to choose from. Why in the world play a football game there?

Throw in the fact that the game is on Peacock and Iowa hit the double Whammy of viewing choices today.
