Preview, Prediction: Hawkeyes Believe Upset of No. 4 Penn State Possible

Definitely the safe pick, the smart money (although your prediction would cover the spread). Hard to dispute. But to quote Josey Jewell before the Wyoming game, "I guess we'll find out Saturday". That's what I think about Penn State.

I would love to beat Penn State, but I just don't see it happening. Until Kirk shows he can actually get Iowa to show up against a team like this I don't have much confidence. Stanford, Tennessee, Florida, Penn State last season...we've just looked pathetically unprepared against really athletic teams which is a direct reflection of the coaching staff. What we lack in athleticism compared to those teams we should at least be able to mostly neutralize with good preparation and coaching. Yes, I am somewhat bitter about how ridiculous unprepared we looked in our past 3 bowl games, but I'm still hopeful Kirk and company can prove me wrong.

41-14 last year; 31-13 this year.

Considering how bad the DB's are and the extremely average play of the OL, that would be something to put some stock in for the rest of the season.

PSU 31 Iowa 17

It wouldn't surprise me if the game is close for 3 quarters and PSU pulls away late.

For entertainment purposes only, I would stay away from this game. I could see PSU getting a touchdown late to cover.

FWIW, I would love to be wrong.

They run a more traditional offense though. We usually line up well against those types of teams such as the Paterno-led PSU teams.

I get what you are saying.

But Iowa's pass rush has been a containment rush. Maybe our lack of pressure has been practice for containing running QBs.

I really like this match up. I really feel like we have the scheme and talent to stop their offense.

But I have been a crazy optimist this season. So I may get my hopes crushed.

We will be exposed on both sides of the ball Saturday. Our lines on both sides of the ball have struggled every game against far inferior lines. PSU has good receivers that are athletic, a great tight end, and of course Barkley and McSorley. We struggle with running qbs, and Barkley can catch the ball out of the backfield as well, which typically gives our linebackers fits. They will get pressure on Stanley, as they are athletic on defense. I don't see us running the ball on them all that well, and see us having a hard time stopping their running game. Hope I'm wrong, but unless we get them to turn the ball over and we play a perfect game, then I don't see this game being close.

Michigan last season? We showed up after getting our dicks knocked into the dirt.

Michigan was flat as a pancake against us. We were like wounded animal just looking for someone to unleash on.

Already know what Parker is going to do. Four man stand up non-rush and watch the QB and contain him. All PSU has to do is throw over the defensive line to their all star running back and it's going to get ugly. Pathetic defensive scheme...... just pathetic. Good god Iowa State scored 41 points on us.

To have a chance Stanley will have play out of his mind and keep our offense on the field which will in turn keep their offense off the field.
