Prater

Yes he did make that nice deflection in the end zone that led to Greenwood INT before half, great play by him. But other than that,
all he proved during the Insight was that he is not ready for the next level quite yet.

In the nickel package, he was getting beat all over the field and constantly chasing all night, as was Johnson and Hunter for most part. Prater is too small to play safety in the NFL, so he has some things to work on in terms of strength, speed and technique, because he will be a corner in the NFL. Another year at Iowa will do him some good. He is not ready to make the jump right now!

I agree, Mizzou picked on Prater and Johnson repeatedly during that game. Both of them did not look good. Prater has a lot of work to do before he is ready to play on Sundays.

You're only telling half the story. Gabbert was not being pressured at all. When a QB has that much time, you're going to see most defensive backs chasing receivers.

Prater just seemed ticked off and I loved it! He was getting gangster on every tackle he made and seemed to take every hit he laid personal. I liked seeing some emotion for once.

Prater is a good CB, but he has room for improvement. I was surprised when Ferentz stated he put his name out to the draft advisory board to consider the draft. I think both he and Hyde will be better next year. Gabbert's skill set, and the talent of the WR's definitely played into this. Based on the limited times we have seen it, it appears that Prater is very good at press coverage, its too bad that the hawks dont mix that in with the bend but dont break cover 2 they run. I'm a big fan of the Cover 2, but it is tough on corners when you dont consistently get pressure on an accurate QB. That is what we saw last night. You can't expect a corner to stay with a talented WR for that long. Near the end the DL got more pressure, and Norm mixed in some press coverage with the LB blitzes. All of which forced some punts, and ultimately the interception by Hyde. I think our DB's will be a strength next year with Sash, Hyde, Prater, and Miller/Bernstine.

I love Prater and I have a feeling all of the Misery trash talking made every tackle feel "goood"...I expect him to stay and work on his skills.

To be fair, they switched Prater to cover Moe who was lining up in the slot because Prater is our best cover corner. Prater doesn't normally line over slot receivers or exclusively play man-coverage. It is very hard to man-up a slot WR in the middle of the field. Prater was admirable, even if not always successful.

Johnson was getting used primarily in zone coverages, not the man-up coverage Prater was in.

I thought he had good coverage on a lot of plays but the quarterback just put it in the perfect spot and not a lot of them can do that. This is just my opinion as a former corner.

Gabbert is an EXCELLENT QB. That played into it as well, no?

Of course not. All certain people on here know how to do is whine and complain.

We're lucky it was Johnson who was getting beat given he's a LB, because it would have made our corners look just as pathetic....then we'd have no excuses as to why we were getting beat.....

Did anyone mention Iowa WON that game?

I think prater and Hyde will be the best corner duo we've had in a while next season. Now hear me, DUO. Not saying either one are Spievey or Fletcher type corners, but together they will give us two pretty good defenders out there next year. Prater loves to be physical and lay the wood on one side, and Hyde will give us pick six chances alot. JMO. This will free up Sash and Miller (who looks to also like to be physical like sash) to roam and take a few chances. Agree, disagree, what's everybody think?

I think the Spievey and Fletcher/Prater duo is better. Now, Spievey got picked in the 3rd round and Prater is not close to the shutdown corner that Spievey was, so I don't think he'll like what he hears from the NFL. Now, I also don't think he has the size as a safety, he's a true corner.

Hyde does have better hands for interceptions, as Prater has dropped many balls that were catchable. But I still think Hyde has a lot of catching up to do to get to Praters level.

I think Prater has a shot to be an NFL corner, but he definitely needs another year at Iowa.

I think he'll be great next year, and hopefully Hyde improves a bunch. He certainly has the potential.

Yes that's my point, NFL QB's are great too and receivers are far better than that of college receivers. My point, Prater would get killed all over field in NFL right now! If Gabbert made him look silly in your opinion, then what would Brady, Manning, Brees and Rogers make him look like?

Agreed Gabbert had a lot of time, but if receivers are covered you often get coverage sacks. Gabbert was throwing those 5-10 routes on Prater all day long, and Gabbert didn't need all day long to complete those routes. I like Prater don't get me wrong, but if your telling me his is ready for the NFL, then your crazy!
