Could anyone really effectively cheat against Miami in that era? The really didn't care what number you wore...they were taking your head off.

Who said it was effective? Whether you cheat and it doesn't work or whether you cheat and it does work...you still cheated

Actually, I am not sure they actually broke any NCAA rules with that move.

Neither did Notre Dame when one of their players "got injured" to stop the clock with a few seconds left on the clock and ran the next play in for a touchdown. Neither did A Rod when he screamed "MINE" when an infielder was trying to catch a pop fly.

Anyone know why, in a couple of those pics, the footballs were taped up with white tape on the tips? Obviously a passing drill but what's the reason?

I'm not 100% sure if this is the point, but I do something similar with the kids I coach. It's a focus thing...I'll put numbers on the football, written pretty small, that the WR's have to shout out when they catch every pass. It ensures that they are watching the ball all the way into their hands. They also have to look it into the tuck and shout out that number as well, to get them into the habit of securing the football and looking it into the tuck.

Again, not sure if that's what Campbell is doing here, but it'd be my guess.

Thanks for that 2679. It does make sense.
Watching the Cap One bowl vs LSU again the other night, I remembered how frustrated I was with all the dropped passes in that game. It drove Drew crazy. Really a lack of focus from the WR's.
