My vote is a plus one system. I enjoy bowl games and to me it makes college football special so I'd like to persevere the traditions of the Rose Bowl with still making it possible to crown more accurately a true National Champ.

Baseball, Hockey, and Basketball have seasons so long that I just watch the playoffs cause that's like a season in its own. I'd hate to see that happen to college football.

I want a 14 game schedule with the old bowl tie in's and mythical national champions.

There was nothing wrong with finishing the season #1 in a poll and calling it a day.

My vote is the #1 system as well but with modifications. I think they keep traditional bowl tie in games and announce the #1 game after the bowl games are played. This would mean putting these big bowls back to New Years Day and pushing the rest of them back into December.

FUISU,

#4 vs #1 and #2 vs #3 is not a "plus one" system. A "plus one system" is literally what it says. You play the bowl games and them add one more game afterwards for the NC, after a new #1 and #2 are identified after the bowls.

What you described as a "plus one" is actually a four team playoff.

Thanks, I now I can feel like an idiot on the message boards and not in public when discussing this. I've been reading different systems and just got a little confused

I voted something different. Don't think you can come up with a viable system without starting at the conference level.

Let me expand on my previous post.

My version would be a +1 as I think this is the only reasonable playoff scenario that would not ruin the bowl system. You keep the traditional conference tie in games with the BCS bowls but the BCS bowl with the highest ranked conference champ must take the highest ranked of the at large contenders or AQ (not in your conference or ranked #1 or #2). Plus I say you add 1 more BCS bowl, Cotton Bowl seems to be the logical one. So based on this years finish this would have been my BCS bowl lineup:

Rose: Wisconsin vs Oregon
Sugar: LSU vs Stanford
Fiesta: Oklahoma State vs Alabama
Orange: Clemson vs Michigan (at large)
Cotton: West Virginia vs Virgina Tech (at large)

You stagger them out so they are all played on New Years Day, no other bowl game is allowed to schedule on this day. If the Pac 12 and B1G has the top 2 ranked teams then you would split them up.

Once these games are played you put the #1 vs #2 in the BCS standings against each other 2 weeks after the BCS Bowls.

8-teams would cool, but if not that, whatever we can do to get to a final-4 would get my vote

the first round of the playoffs are played at the home stadium of the better-seed team
