1. CJ is not playing like CJ. I do not know why and neither do you.
2. Talent is not a problem in the O Line, the RB's, and only a bit in the receiver group.
3. Talent is not a problem in the D Line, the LB's, but maybe in one corner and the safety's.
4. Benching C.J. Is the dumbest post of the year award.
5. Summary: Lack of talent is not the problem. We are a developmental program and these kids are capable of development.
6. Offense: Run the ball, again and again, but do not telegraph the stretch play time after time.
7. Put the QB under center for the snap. Run play action. Throw deep consistently.
8. Quit pretending. If Croston needs help from the TE or FB, give it to him.
9. Tell CJ to get rid of the ball in 3 seconds.
10. We do not run the spread, so we do not practice against it. Therefore, we do not know how to defend it. Parker has had plenty of time to learn how, as have many other teams.
11. We do not blitz often or generally play agressive defense. Therefore, when we do blitz we are not very good at it and get burned a lot. Learn to do it.
12. Fire Parker if he cannot do the above. It may be time to put this guy on notice.
13. The same goes for Davis. If he cannot present an offense that can be successful against the agressive, stunting, blitzing defenses that dominate football today, he must retire.
14. Since we have KF for a long time, and because that may even work to our advantage, stop calling for his head and work on putting him on notice that his coordinators are failing him.
15. Recognize that KF's long term contract has no impact on his motivation. His passion to win, as with all D1 coaches, is internal, not external. Read the research on this topic before you judge.

I am a long time Hawkeye fan, a donor of modest means, a former coach and business exec trained in organizational leadership. And, I was born and raised in Iowa. I rarely post, but I am so disappointed in this football team, that I could not resist the urge to post in detail. Thanks, if you decided to read this post and sorry if you think I should not have presented my views. I certainly mean no offense to others.

Great post Huck. Overall your message is the coaches mainly the Coordinators need to adjust. I observe this off line is better at straight ahead power and combo blocking with some pulling lineman rather than the stretch play.

You have some great points that would at least look like the coaches are trying to give the players the chance to make plays and win. We should be throwing the ball deep because it opens gaps for medium range passes and safe dump off passes to other receivers.

Louisville's Lamar Jackson looks amazing but did you see how Clemson was not afraid to bring the house on him. You cant sit back and wait for average QBs to look like Brett Favre against you.

Thanks for the list.

Talent is not a problem? Really? They're not developing because the talent isn't there, period. How many walk ons are playing? LBs, all three are from Iowa, and only one would even see the field on any other team. Our ends are horrible. Mabin, is bad. Our 2 safeties are the worst I can remember ever.. So, outside of King and Jewell, our defense is brutal. Offense, where do you start. RB are good, but still miss cutback lanes. Receivers might be the worst group in the nation. Croston doesn't belong on the team, and outside of Daniels and Welsh our line sucks big time.. What we're seeing on the field is a direct result of bad recruiting. CJ is playing like he's lost, but I guess when you have nobody to throw to, it doesn't help. Combine that with the worst group of game day coaches and you have a dumpster fire..

That might have to do with the fact that Clemson has one of the best QBs and offenses in the nation. It's easy to apply that much pressure on the opposing QB when you have a high powered offense that can put up a ton of points waiting on the sideline. Its harder to take those kind of chances when your offense is struggling mightily and may not be able to get those points back.

I agree though; you've got to take chances with the blitz because otherwise were just giving them more time for their receivers to separate from our secondary.

Good post but I don't agree with the bolded part. I see this team having a severe lack of talent. There are very few guys, if any, that you say, "Wow, he is a good athlete for the position he plays". I'm not talking about the great or elite guys you see going early in the NFL draft. I'm talking Iowa doesn't have many above average B1G athletes on their football team.

You can overcome that with a playmaking QB and a disciplined D which Iowa had last year. With JR under center last season Iowa loses 4 games minimum even with the D playing well like it did.

And when you combine that lack of talent with the problems you highlighted you get what we're seeing right now. A team that is going to struggle to get to a .500 record with a very soft schedule.

Great post. We need to be more aggressive on both offense AND defense.

This is basically the same talent that went 12-0 last year. I don't question the talent. It has to developed

Playing devils advocate as I'm not sure I truly believe this, but what if that same talent that went 12-0 peaked and the opposition simply caught up with us in terms of talent. At this point I seriously don't know what to think anymore. Definitely not throwing in the towel or approaching the ledge, but trying to step away from my comfort zone and look at things from a different perspective.
