Position of need

What do you think this recruiting cycle needs the most?
I would have to say, two really good rb's.
Two really good wr's and two big dt's.
We have a few younger promising people at each spot, but depth is an issue and with people leaving after their JR year, people's number will come up even faster. Depth to reload is going to be key to reloading and sustainable success.
Thoughts????

Start with the West first.

Going from a losing conference record one year to the CFP the next isn’t very realistic.

gotta reach for the stars, hayden. if your #1 priority is being #1, then you'll have a better chance of getting there. that's my opinion.

How about going .500 in the Big 10 one year and being one game away from the CFP the next? (We did that from 2014 to 2015.)

You know what, it would be fun to win the West and meet OSU in Indy. Settle this fluke, they had a bad day, no way Iowa beats OSU again in 20 years BS.
See who can bring it, this isn't karaoke ya know.

My answer to this is good players. No, we can't let position groups become thin, but load up on the best players you can and everything else will work itself out. As Bill Belichick said about drafting a player at a position of need (paraphrasing), the only thing worse than not filling a position of need is filling a position of need with someone that's not very good.

Of course, tOSU would have to suck it up and get to Indy the same year as Iowa.

Agree. You would think we should be able to be fairly selective and I think they have been.
I'm probably over reacting about DT, it should be very solid next year, so finding one this cycle would be nice. Not a 220 pound guy we have to work on for 3 years. Shannon seems like a really good get.
They say he has a great work ethic and if so, he should be something to watch after he gains some strength, explosiveness and technique. Nixon can't do anything but get better a year in. So one really good one would be nice to see in this class.

Iowa’s greatest position of need?

Spring

Just another wintery April day in Iowa really sucks

I agree. If we had had the proper offensive mindset in 2015, we'd have been B1G champs an in the playoff. No sense in NOT thinking like that for every season. Then be realistic: injuries, lack of experience, etc. But that should be the exception, not the rule.

WR
QB
RB

In that order
We have taken a ton of wr's the last two years, haven't we?? Maybe a couple, but again, being selective.
I would put rb higher than those two. Stanley is here for a few years and we just brought in one (and already had) one that have some talent. Yes they try to get one every year.

I think another thing to consider is, we may have numbers at positions and even highly rated recruits, but the coaches will know much better than us and before us which players are going to pan out and which positions really are in need of more players and which are not. Might be a few Josey Jewells, Chad Greenways, Bruce Nelsons, (we hope) that the coaches know about and we don't.

I know. It's kind of a boring time of year, so watching who they are after with the new rules in place is about the most fun right now.
