I think since this next trial should be done before that game and the outcome of that will have long been decided I'd say we'll know what their plans are by then anyway. I can't see him hanging on just can't... Does Gable want the gig?

Maybe a better question is whether Craig Bohl will be the football coach after the game because he and Kirk Ferentz make it a winner-take-all match.

I think he can hang on if he follows a simple plan of having everyone in the department take a loyalty oath to him personally, then he can fire and prosecute anyone who is not on board with his leadership, then trash their reputations in the fan media if they cross him.

I assume this was a not so subtle reference to our President. More accurately, he could fire someone for incompetence that everyone agreed should be fired and then watch those hypocrites become unglued over the firing.

I don't know if I'm just bummed over the holiday weekend already over or what. The pessimist in me thinks we're screwed either way:
If he stays we are stuck with an AD that's locked in on maintaining the status quo.
Barta equates to a lot of nothing new, not much exciting to see, rinse & repeat...year after year.
If he gets clipped we face the uncertainty of the devil we don't know.
Would a new AD share the same "Harvard-agenda" as the University President who hires him/her??
I hate to think about the emerging race between Iowa City and Madison to try to out-do the other to become the Berkeley of The Midwest.

I think GB will survive this one. I am not taking sides, just giving my opinion. I will guess that the new President, who gave GB a solid vote of confidence coming in, will give him another shot. If the study of Iowa's athletic department makes some solid suggestions for improvement and doesn't bash the current leadership in the process, GB will get an opportunity to right the ship. Also, and again, this is my admittedly uneducated view, I think the President and maybe even the Board of Regents, believe that the jury made a very dramatic if not particularly valid decision.

Dude, that race (to become the new Berkeley) has been going since the 1980s (at the very latest), one could easily argue it started when Evy was still the AD.

If he moves on, it will take a little time. That way it won't look like a panic move for the U. My guess is he's being given an easy out... start interviewing and we'll give you a little time.

At what point do we say "if he isn't fired by now, he isn't going to be fired"? June 30? July 31? I mean, I almost think that if he hasn't been canned by now, he isn't going to be canned.

Stuff generally doesnt work yhat way. Its about money. Look at the fool that sits on the basketball sideline. Think donors like him dont have say? Think they want to risk their status?

Barta has done enough prior to this to get severely punished. He hasnt been before. It might happen but dont hold your breath. Now if higher ups are implicated in something...thats another story. Or if criminal charges are a threat....

The University just lost a lawsuit around firing of an employee that they thought was a sure win. If they're going to fire Barta, you can bet they're dotting all the "i's" and crossing all the "t's"... being extra careful to not leave themselves open to another lawsuit.

They won't fire him. They will pay him to go away.

I'll take a guess and say he's still here.

I understand the argument that Iowa may be patient and putting a strong case together but I think that time only plays in Bartas favor. The longer it goes, the less of a public story it is and does Iowa want to let another employee go and bring another potential lawsuit?

If Barta sues the university, he will never again be hired by any corporation, not even to flip burgers at McDonalds.

That's not how things work. Anyway if he sues and wins he won't have to work. How would he be discriminated against if fired anyway?
