Please No Texas

They destroyed the SWC and they are in the process of destroying the Big12. Why would we want to invite trouble. I would not welcome Texas as much as I'm welcoming Nebraska.

I dislike Texas as much as the next guy, but if they come to the Big 10 and agree to play by Big Ten rules by sharing revenues (I don't think they would be asked to join otherwise) it could mean a boat load of money for everyone in the conference. I don't think Texas could take down the Big Ten like it has done to the old SWC and is now doing to the Big 12.

I think Texas is getting 'cold feet' and is going to stay put and try to salvage what is left of the Big 12. The major reason is Texas A&M's strong push to free themselves from Texas's shadow. Texas was a 'lock' to goto the Pac 10 with it's crew just a short while ago until A&M started seriously considering moving to the SEC.

Much of Texas's power comes not only from it's market but it's powerful underlings starting with Texas A&M and Oklahoma. Texas just lost underling Nebraska from it's group and cannot afford to lose A&M especially to the SEC. This would create competition for prized recruits within Texas not only from A&M but a new A&M with an opportunity to play the against the best of the SEC. This also puts an SEC footprint in Texas possibly snatching some valueable recruits. Remember the SEC academic standards are lower which helps the SEC and A&M. Notice the recent wind change..... suddenly Chip Brown's new post on Orangebloods about Texas mulling the idea of staying put with the Big 12? This came essentially in the time frame after a meeting where A&M had decided not to go with Texas to the Pac 10.

If I am right look for Texas to start conversations to stay put and whoo A&M into not taking the offer from the SEC. They will immediately start damage control to save the Big 12 and ISU comes out smelling like a rose with a new 17$ mill in TV revenue sharing from a Pac10-Big12. The question in my mind is can they really get that much?

Remember prior to the Big 12's formation A&M was the dominate force in the SWC not Texas. When the Big 12 was formed Texas took control and has benefited ever since. If A&M were wise they would continue to push to remove themselves from the grip of Texas. New ball game if they get it done and watch Texas face deeper competition and finally have to consider becoming an equal partner with a conference.

If A&M leaves for the SEC then you might see Texas wind up in the Big Ten after all because the Big 12 will not be workable and the Big Ten's offer is best. I did not think this was possible a few days ago.

Watch A&M they hold the key to all of this.....

This expansion stuff is absolutely interesting.

Agree with this. I don't want TX, but if they do work out a deal it will be because TX will come to terms with the BigTen more than becasue the bigten comes to terms with TX.

Just think of the egos that the BigTen will have.

I don't understand the fear of adding Texas to the Big 10. They will be one vote in the process of conference decision making. They will not be bringing in a block of yes men with them like they did in the formation of the Big 12. The revenue that they would add and the revenue they would gain would make it silly for them to make waves. They aren't rich because they are stupid, they are rich because they are smart. And greedy. But they can't be as overtly greedy when they have no sphere of influence in a new group of equals.

I'm starting to think that if, A&M jumps and then OU jumps to the SEC, Texas will reconsider the Big 10 long and hard. If Texas were to jump as #13 I have a feeling ND may jump as #14 without the Big 10 having to destablize the BE. At that point there would be no reason to go to 16 because you wouldn't add enough TVs to make it worth it (would you?). If ND is unwilling to be #14 we still might see 16 teams trying to get ND as #16 and destablizing the BE.

I guess, the only way I see us going to 16 if TX & ND are 13 & 14, is to solidify the east coast market with their love of basketball, so Syracuse and another strong BB team that has at least a serviceable FB team.

Agree with you.... if A & M goes to the SEC as is rumored all bets are off and I think Texas will be joining the Big Ten. Notre Dame will be in either at 14 or 16 as you stated.

If 16 is the end point....
The East Coast can provide a lot of TV sets with the addition of Rutgers and Maryland or Syracuse. If not maybe Missouri or Pittsburgh gets in to round things out.

I'm thinking Missouri may be the back up plan if we don't get Texas.
