Put a tight end in for an option when we fake a field goal.Murray's arm has to be better than his running.I liked the call though.Never,Never,Never call the naked bootleg again.Other than that I think we'll be just fine.I'm ready for some football all ready,Go Hawks.

Yea your probably right. Those naked bootlegs just don't work for some reason and we don't need to get Ricky hurt again.

Did you mind it when we ran it in 2003?

How about stop throwing deep balls on 3rd and 5, 3rd and 6, 3rd and 3, 3rd and 4, 3rd and 8, 3rd and 7, 3rd and 2, 3rd and 1, 3rd and 9....

Here's an idea....MOVE THE CHAINS. Stop killing our own drives.

I think the Special teams coach develops fake field goals. KOK probably didn't design that play at all.

Holy crap, here we are not even a week out of a BCS bowl victory, and KOK is already under the gun. If something is bad, KOK takes the heat, if something is great, thank goodness we have KF as our coach! whoever designed that fake FG, I can guarantee that KF gave his approval before it was ran.

so co-workers of my wife (nurse) were also ******** about that play AND blaming KOK as well. You know you have it bad when nurses are blaming you for that play.....

KOK just can't catch a break.

And for good reason, as Jon posted this final offensive ranking in another thread:

2003: 92nd
2004: 101st
2009: 89th

What was our rank for frequency of scoring more points than the other team? W that's what matters.

You do realize that you just listed years in which we won 10, 10, and 11 games respectively don't you? Is your point that KOK is terrible? If it is you might want to use different years than the years that we won 31 games collectively in.

Let look at when we had good offensive stats:

2002: 13th
2005: 22nd
2006: 26th

We had 11, 7, and 6 wins respectively.

People get way to carried away about the stats and where we sit. I will take those 3 "bad" offensive years collectively over the 3 "good" offensive years any day. These guys know how to coach, and they don't care about stats. They sit on the ball to win games if they have to, and they could give two rips about people like you who get wrapped up in the stats. I for one am thankful of that!

Bingo. Also, if you're going to call a fake field goal, just run play. If the whole idea is to make the opponent have to go the length of the field (which I'm assuming it was), just run a regular play and try no to get the kicker killed.

I have a feeling that was more Kirk's call, or the special teams coordinator's idea, than KOK's decision.

If you would look at the thread know one was blaming any one for the fake field goal,I thought it was a good idea.My only thought was have more than one option on that play. It's a discussion not a bashing. The only play I have a problem with is the naked bootleg,we don't seem to be able to pull it off for some reason and I don't want to see our QB get rolled over.No Bashing just discussion.

the reality is Kirk is OK with what KOK does so nothing will ever change.

Anyone ever talked to an offensive starter about their opinion of KOK? You would be surprised.

Yes, many of players and KOK is a well respected man. KOK has coached 500+ kids at Iowa, so I am sure it would not be hard to find some that werent happy. Wow, big shocker, lol.

People can complain all they want about KOK, he is not on the hot seat and he is going to continue to work under KF.

As for the the fake fg, EVERY SINGLE PLAY called of that nature runs through Kirk and is approved by him. If you have a complaint with it, start with Kirk and end with Kirk.

Were you upset in the Indiana game when we ran it? How about the first td drive of the OB? Michigan game? It has been a staple of Iowa football for a long time including one of the top plays of all time in 1984 when Long kept it.

Stanzi is more accurate when he airs it out a bit plus his pick six ratio goes down. Throwing long has worked for big gains and long touchdown strikes quite often this year. When you have a great D there's no harm in trying to catch the opposing D off guard. This approach worked this year to the tune of 11-2.
