Playmakers....

Iowa has a few, the mostly ride the pine.

Ferentz loves game managers.....

Need to take a risk with a few players....

Powell

Canzeri

Law

Beathard perhaps.

my opinion love it or leave it.

Law hasn't done anything to prove that. Canzeri needs more opportunity before you can make that argument and bullock though not ideal at rb has played well enough. Powell seems to be but needs to learn offense. Beathard got beat out and rudock was hurt by playcalling in 2nd half.

Bullock and Rudock handled themselves fine yesterday.

We've been told Loudermilk plays because Law gets caught out of position from time to time. Hmmmm....

Are you seriously kidding me?

Were you at the game today and saw the number of blown coverages and toasted secondary players? Our safety play is horrendous especially Miller yet Law cannot get on the field? He is twice the athlete that Miller is and Lowdermilk are. Lowdermilk just happens to be the son of an NFL player which KF loves... Screw job for Law?

Bullock is very overrated... Was slow, broke no tackles and dropped a critical screen that was going to be a huge gainer. Canzeri although small scored on a play against Oklahoma which was pretty similar and is great in space and on the edges. A playmaker this offense really needs yet plays 4 plays and I am not sure if any in the second half.

How much offense does a guy who is the fastest player on the team need and got behind the NIU secondary 4 times in the only 4 plays he was on the field while Shumoert and Hillard played 60 plus plays combining for 2 catches for 10 yards.

Who made the big plays today? Cotton and Powell but these guys played a fraction of what other guys who would not start for UNI did.

Rudock was better than I expected. His play did not lose this game.

I saw miller and lomax get burnt. But no more than I saw law get burnt in games last year. Lowdermilk is actually a very good athlete as is miller it is about who the best safeties are. I am not a fan of miller but law had last year and messed up last year. I will give lowdermilk more time before giving judgement but thought he was fine, so far.

bullock is really more of a wr but he offers a change to weisman and I was glad to see more rotation of the rbs. I think canzeri could be a real weapon and would prefer him over bullock but bullock hasn't actually done anything to lose his job. Which makes me believe canzeri hasn't done anything to win it. I would like canzeri to return punts if they don't let him in at rb more. The more I read about Daniels the more I think he is really the best back on the team as I still think Weisman is more FB than rb (btw he played some FB in the game).

powell looks good but itis more than just running the correct route in this offense. It is an west coast style passing attack. This means that receivers and qbs must read the defense to know what route to run. This was the problem last year with guys. That is most likely why KMM looked so good in finding open areas compared to others and caught so many more balls than others. Give Powell time nd he will be there as his speed will create mismatches.

i am more upset about three things.

1) misuse of TEs we have a stable of them and they are mismatch nightmares and we have 3 targets to CJ and I don't remember any to the others. In fact I remember CJ not even going into a route and staying to block a few times.

2) only attacking the sidelines with throws and rarely going over the middle. I know what chuck long was saying about staying to the outside for safer throws. The problem is the DBs figured it out and started to jump routes. You have to keep teams honest.

3) the scared and stupid playcalling in the second half. We got very safe with play calls and the defense was able to see everything develop in front and make plays. Along with stupid plays like 3rd and 1 passes when you are pushing the LOS like we did. If you are going to pass on that down you better be willing to the run on 4th and 1.

playmakers must prove it in games. Bullock and Weisman and kirksey and lowery and KMM are playmakers and have done it in games to prove it. 1 play doesn't make you a playmaker (though I think Powell will be), Internet videos of knocking a helmet off but consistently getting beat when you start in 2012 doesn't make you a playmaker (ala law). Canzeri has 1 game that he has shown some flashes but is also coming off an acl injury. All these playmakers people bring up are conjecture at best right now. I am upset with the loss but I think most of the problems were actually more strategical coaching calls (ie plays) than anything. And I typically look more at execution than playcalling but there were glaring problems in the second half.

if Iowa had put the second half together like they did the first half no one would be talking about law over lowdermilk or canzeri over bullock. Because we would have had 600 yds of offense and won the game remember those are the players that helped get one of the best halves of Iowa footballing can remember in the last few years.

Canzeri is not "coming off an ACL" he has been fully recovered for over a year.

My point is this... Although guys like Ruddock and Bullock are serviceable and did an overall good job, they are not guys that can jump start an office by making outstanding football plays. We need speed at the RB and WR position and we need a qb that isn't afraid to take some chances and that can make a few plays with his feet, not a game manager. We also need a safety that can come up and lay some wood.

I don't think Canzeri is much of anything. Powell needs to play though.

You're dreaming about Law, Kirk likes white safeties.

Last I checked a safety's first concern should be pass...the way law plays he thinks he is a blitzing linebacker. He had last year and wasn't very good. In fact if you add up his plus and minus plays from last year I would almost bet he ends up negative.

rudock took shots and made plays yesterday. He can run he can throw. Anyone still saying he isn't good enough watched the wrong game.

i am all for canzeri playing. I just won't throw bullock under the bus as he has been good. I feel he would be better as a wr but I am not the coach and don't see what they do in practice.

Playmakers are never known until they are on the field. But to get on the field you have to EARN your time. By the way you can lose that time after you have earned it by screwing up or someone catching and passing you.

Your logic is flawed. If it is about negative plays out numbering positive plays then there are multiple guys including miller who should not be out there. We would be better with Law and a few others on the field but some of these guys are not coach's favorites which typically has nothing to do with performance on game day.

Explain to me how Shumpert could be starting as one example and I will show you a team that cannot beat anyone including MAC teams and BAD B1G teams.

I think Bullock goes down too easy and does not have as good a vision as Canzeri. Bulluock sorta squirts out and goes down.

i'm not on board with Canzeri as a stater - but bullock as a WR is laughable (could not catch a w/o screen that would have = 30 yards +) also seems to go down like a WR in the backfield when touched.

I am calling for Canzeri to be on the field more not necessarily as a starter. I want him utilized in the screen game, throws out of the backfield and lined up in the slot for possible jet sweeps. Not power I inside tackle runs.

Give me a lot of packages with him and Powell on the field and I want teams having to worry and account for them freeing up the others. Speed and playmakers kill! Bullock is marginal. Not a first tier player.

Your logic is flawed...yours is a guy who has proven nothing isautomatically better than others. I won't defend shumpert but just because a guy is on the field or the bench doesn't mean favoritism. Maybe the coaches know that they are better or feel they are better. Lowdermilk is a very athletic player and saying he couldn't beat out law with all of law's mistakes is just being ignorant. I think miller is not starting caliber but he actually has played better than law and anyone they have put in for him during some of his benchings and so he goes back in.

i find it laughable that people actually think coaches will intentionally play some one they know is inferior just because they like some one more. Especially in the cutthroat world of college and pro coaching. Win or get fired is their job so even though they might not play who you think is best they are playing who they think is best and they are the ones getting paid to make that decision.

i don't read people ripping on lomax and he got abused by niu where as lowdermilk did not. But law is an Internet sensation so he is getting the short end.

i would say the only wr that looked really solid was KMM as they rotated a lot of guys as Powell, cotton, shumpert, hillier, mccarron, smith all played and got targets. But we are focusing on the guy that started even though starting is overrated for wr when you have packages based off of skill sets and formations.

we finally rotated rbs on a consistent basis instead of running a guy into the ground and bringing in the next guy. Should they have played canzeri more and bullock less (maybe) I can see the argument but bullock isn't terrible and canzeri really only has had one game with much of a load. Where as bullock has had half a year I get leaning on him more for that reason. I don't prefer it but I understand it.

300 yds in the 1st half with these players and 24 pts yet then in the second half they can't do it anymore...come on that change happened because of playing too cute. 3rd and 1 passes are over thinking the situation. GD thought he was smarter than the niu staff when he didn't need to be smart he just needed to stick with what was working.

I stopped reading right here and couldn't stop laughing. lol

Shows how little you know since he was moved to running back after practicing as a wr when he first showed up on campus as a frosh. The move to rb came because of injuries and he was the best available. Otherwise he was on track to be a wr early in his career.

There is a legit and long history not to trust the head coach's personnel decisions. It is well documented. Everyone can forgive a few but there have been a number across the years and they have cost this program.

If lowdermilk is one of the 4 best then he plays but why not get both guys Law and him on the field when both are better than miller?

As far as Lowrey it was his first game and there is a learning curve but I will state this that if he does not produce go to the next guy. Same with every position and I do not care if the guy is an upper classman, 4 star player or starter the year before. I am a firm believer in competition at all positions and that you have to produce on game day.

When a program is on a 7 game losing streak, disappointing seasons and there are long term starters who have been a part of that each needs to have real competition and likely replacement.

What is the motivation for KF? He has an IRON CLAD deal.... Even if he never wins another game.
