Playing the "what if" game....

What if Iowa is somehow able to pull out a win at NW? How would everyone feel at that point? At the halfway point of the conference, we would be 3-1 and could possibly be tied at the top with Nebraska and Michigan if Nebraska is able to win at home against Michigan on Saturday.

It can't be overstated how important this game is on Saturday. Win and we've essentially separated ourselves along with Nebraska and Michigan from the other 3 teams by three games. Lose and the division essentially becomes out of reach and it will be a mad scramble to find 2 more wins to even be bowl eligible.

That's why I find it absolutely crazy and ludicrous by Jon to suggest that the staff is somehow saving a redshirt for Sokol rather than play him this year. The division is within reach and we would then be just one game away with a mediocre Wisconsin team from going to the Rose Bowl. It's crazy, I know....given how last Saturday night played out. But it seems that most every year, we have one stinkbomb of a game. Hopefully Saturday was that game and we can grind out a win against the 'Cats. At that point, all bets are off and it's go time!

Go Hawks!

If they beat NW it' not going to matter. They're still going to lose to Michigan and Nebraska.

I'd be happy but it wouldn't really change my outlook. I think the passing game might show imporvement but won't believe that the hawks have arrived until demonstrated a few more times.

I really don't care about winning the Big Ten this year. It's an awful year for the conference to begin with, but then add in the fact that everyone is playing to be the third-best team, and it really doesn't mean much.

Ok, I'll humor you.

If Iowa wins then 88.8% of the Hawkeye fanbase will once again jump back on the bandwagon and start talking about the Rosebowl. The other 11.2% will continue to hate Ferentz an his bubble gum chewing.

There.....that's the spirit I was looking for!! :D

C'mon man! I'm just trying to find something positive to get excited about! :)

I'd suggest starting a couple calendar-countdowns:
1) to November 4th start of MBB
2) to November 23rd, when this embarrassing disaster will finally come to an end in a horrific demolition, but the Sokol / Rudock speculation can begin.

Fortunately or unfortunately, once that first conference "L" is "achieved", we are in the position of having to root for other teams to win/lose to certain other teams.

If we win, it means nothing more than we are 5-3/3-1, and in line with DiNardo's assertion that we would still be in the picture for Legends at end of October.

I cringe at the thought of playing UM and Nebraska. NW is ALWAYS a heart attack waiting to happen. Purdue is obviously having issues, and who can explain Indiana putting up 49 on OSU while managing only 30 (in a loss) against Navy?

I await this Saturday with little-to-zero expectation of a W.

Even if they win, I'm not jumping on a bandwagon, but I will be happy to get one more win closer to 6 wins. Rudock and a lot of the younger guys could really benefit from the extra practice time and at least get to enjoy a trip at the end of the year. I'm not going to allow myself to believe they can win the B1G. The second I do that they'll get steam rolled by Michigan, Purdue and Nebraska.

False, we still control our own destiny...all the way to a Rose Bowl showdown with USC or Oregon.

Then the pendulum would swing back towards hope and we will be talking about possibly getting to Indianapolis and/or a midlevel bowl like the Gator Bowl (but only b/c half of the BIG is ineligible). If we lose, the panic will persist for another week. We've all seen this before.

My thoughts would basically be this: "Great, but we saw the same thing against MSU, and they didn't show up for PSU the next week. Is the same thing going to happen again?"

I'm not going to get too excited about Hawkeye Football again until they prove they can produce a good season, not just have one good week. Or at the very least, have 3 or 4 good weeks in a row. It's all about consistency for me.

This, Kirk needs to play for this freakin season. Play anyone who can help win THIS year. Why? Because we don't know who the hell will still be around next year.Play Sokol Kirk!!!!!!!!!! Transfers, trouble with the law, injuries, grades. Airbag. Burn redshirts! Hell, a dimunitive RB from the past had 1 year of elegiblity left and didn't use it!!! He had no future in the NFL and we needed him that year..

Any wins the rest of the season won't remove the stink from the Central Michigan and Penn State games.

We could win out, and this season will still be a disappointment.

Here is what will happen:

Hawks beat NW - fans get back on bandwagon and start talking Rose Bowl
Hawks lose to IU - bandwagon empty
Hawks beat Purdue - fans edge back onto bandwagon for acceptable year
Hawks lose to UM - firekirk.com is the most popular site on the internet
Hawks beat NU - Kirk is great!
