Playing better on the road.

As anyone else noticed that we seem to play better on the road than we have at home. Although its good that we're playing good on the road, this baffles me. I realize that we've given up some late touchdowns in some home games, but we haven't really dominated at anyone at home outside of Arizona.

Home:
UNI 17-16 squeked by
Arizona 27-17, gave up a late td
Arkansas St. 24-21 gave up a late td
Michigan 30-28 gave up a late td

Away:
ISU 35-3 dominated thanks to Arnaud
Penn State 21-10 dominated the 2nd half
Wisconsin 20-10 dominated the 2nd half

I'm interested to see if anyone else has noticed this as well.

It's a very good problem to have (especially with our road schedule) and hopefully it keeps going this weekend for another victory.

Livermore nailed it...if there was ever a year to play better on the road, this was it. As long as we don't slip up at home and lose one, I don't really care how ugly the wins are. Naturally I'd like to throttle NW and Indy by several TD's, but that's not really how we roll at home this year.

Its strange, because usually the reverse is true for Iowa. We usually are strong at home and struggle on the road.

I have noticed, and it seems like we have played some pretty good teams on the road as well, it's not like we are beating up on Illinoise on the road to pad road stats. All 3 of our road opponents have winning records, and 2 are ranked in the top 25 of the BCS. I am just hoping for two more strong road showings, and hopefully 3 more strong showings at home. This is usually the time of the year when our coaches get the team playing their best, that may be a bigger trend to hope for, home or away.

There is no better reputation in competitive sports than being a road warrior. It reveals a lot about your character and focus.

Back when I used to compete against other people instead of snow and mountains, I always felt way more satisfaction with a win on the road than with one at home. There's just something priceless about beating an opponent in their crib while shutting up their fans.

I believe that shows how great of coaches and leaders we have on this team. Even if we get behind, we never get flustered.

I think at the beginning of the year during camp there was such an emphasis by the coaches placed on the road schedule this year that the team has been more focused when these games roll around. Even players acknowledged prior to the beginning of the season that the road schedule had been discussed and they knew it was difficult. This seems different from most seasons, when the standard answer is to just take each game at a time, etc...

I think you've seen similar results in past seasons when they coaching staff put an emphasis on certain areas prior to the season the team usually responded to those situations. Such as a couple years ago when the emphasis was getting off to a hot start and the team did for the first time in a while, only to fall apart later. And back in 2002 and 03 the emphasis seemed to be on defending home field, and we always played unbeatable at home.
