Player we're going to miss the most from graduation

I think it is DJK hands down. We haven't had a receiver like him in a long, long time.

He has stretch the field speed, he makes so many catches too in big situations that aren't your "routine" catches.

Players like him help open up the running game more than you think. He often forces teams to provide safety help over the top, and if you don't you get burned.

Rarely does Iowa have a player who can just blow up single coverage like DJK. He's going to be severely missed.

DJK would be up there, but I am going to go with Stanzi on this one. JV does not have enough experience under center and I worry we will be to green there. If OSU would have blitz him more, I think we see that same results as the Northwestern and Minnesota game last year. I think we will see a noticeable drop off there.

DJK is certainly a big one, arguably the one that will be most missed. I think you could make a good case for Hunter, too. He's be a quiet, steady guy for us. His coverage isn't great, but he's improved in that area every year. And he's always around the ball, takes very good angles. I just don't think there's anyone on the roster right now that can immediately fill his shoes.

But DJK is probably #1.

I have to agree with Brian.

Ricky throws some inaccurate passes from time to time and DJK just hauls them in. A lesser receiver probably would drop some of these passes. From what I've seen of James Vandenberg he appears to have better mechanics than Stanzi.

I have a feeling there will not be a huge drop off in QB performance next year. I really like what I see in James, although admittedly the difference in experience between him and Stanzi is significant, hopefully some of that can be made up with good execution from James.

We return almost everyone on offense so I don't think you'll see that big of a dropoff, if any at all, imo. Now the defense is a whole different story.

It won't be Stanzi.

As much as I like the guy, he simply makes made decisions at the wrong time. Sure, he's only got 2 picks this season but they are both pic 6s iirc. He completes 68% of his passes but he misses at the wrong time that kill drives. He takes sacks when we are in FG position and just doesn't know how to manage the game. I also place the blame on his inept OC - probably more than on the QB but there are times such as the spike against Wisky that a 5th yr QB should instinctively just spike the ball. Or the 4 sacks he took against Arizona.

Again, my arguement for Stanzi...He was trying to spike the ball, but the TO came from the sidelines. Yes, obviously DJK is an amazing receiver, I love the guy. I'm just saying it's going to be a little difficult to lose the leader of your offense.

He's thrown just one pick 6, and McNutt should have had that ball. No, it wasn't a perfect pass, but it was an easily catchable ball.

One thing I'm going to miss from graduation is the character and story lines from the team. Some of this **** you can't make up. Stanzi and the whole America thing, the supposed DJK v Ferentz/doghouse/media silence storyline. Das Pakibomb. There are some good characters in this senior class and when they leave, I think next years overall team character will be kind of blah, except for JVB's mom.

I agree DJK will be missed a lot but a close second is Stanzi for sure, especially with his performance this year.

Another thing about DJK. Excellent, excellent receiver. But, if don't have QB that can get him the ball in key situations......then you have a problem. With JV, I wonder if he is going to have enough poise back there to get the ball to receivers like McNutt, Resiner, etc. Can he execute with enough pass plays throughout the game? I think, for the most part, Stanzi is making enough plays in the game that if he had a competent specials teams it would be enough. I think those 4 straight sacks are a result of overcoaching and an o-line that was still learning on the job. The inept last drive on Saturday I will not put on Stanzi either. That is a Ken and Kirk screw up job. Although, I do think Stanzi did make a poor decision on eating the sack on that last drive.

It's DJK. I hope that Davis can step in and be the guy next year, but DJK is clutch and he just opens the field. Without him McNutt doesn't do much IMO. DJK is the best WR we've had at Iowa in the Ferentz era by far, and he will be missed. Iowa needs to find a guy that can fill his void or the offense will not be nearly as good as everyone thinks it will be next year. He opens up the running game more than people realize, and he's a very good blocker.
