Player Weight Question

It was interesting to hear AJ Epenesa talk about playing at 262 last year. If I remember correctly, they had him listed at 270 or so last year. Basically, he was pretty much the same weight as Hesse last year. He just seemed bigger. Now he's a legitimate 278 and talked about the 16 pounds of muscle and Doyle's work with him. He's going to be fun to watch with the extra strength and you know he's probably a step faster too.

I really think you will see him playing inside on 3rd down some. I would love to see him and A. Nelson running stunts on one side of the field and 2nd and long or 3rd and long...they would be a handful.

Heres the question...how far off do you think the weights are on these guys. I know Epenesa wasn't listed at 262 last year.

NIU is going to be a dogfight with the four suspensions...plain and simple.

Based on recent history the game is a dogfight no matter what........With one exception Iowa has figured out how to win it. Despite the 4 suspensions I expect Iowa to win this one as well.

Listed weights are like listed heights. They’re generally overstated.

Also, keep in mind that at these kinds of body weights, their fluid intakes, and the amount of calories these guys consume they can easily swing 5-6 lbs day to day.

The Hawks, under Ferentz, maybe Fry as well, have always exaggerated heights and weights. Remember how CJ Feidoriwicz was 6'7"" in college? He shrunk 2" when he became a Houston Texan.

If the Paulsen twins are 6 '4" then I will eat my hat. And yours too.

Why do we feel the need to do this? A clause in Doyle's contract? Does this mean our undersized D- Line this year is even smaller than we think?

Iowa still has enough to beat NIU. It's the Iowa State game that is a concern. Second game of the year and half of the offensive line will be on their first game.

ALL football coaches do this, especially in HS and college. Generally add an inch and 10 pounds. I wouldn't be worried about the size of the line.

I would add that weights are not updated very often, so there's that. Sometimes the listed number is several months old.

Heights are routinely exaggerated:

I'm "actually 6'5". 6'9" with the afro..."

I remember when Brandon Sherff was playing . He was listed at 6-5, 6-6 and 315. I saw him around town a couple of times. He was one large human. Just solid muscle. If his weight was off a few pounds or his height of an inch I couldn't tell.

These players weights fluctuate so much it's crazy. Especially this time of year in the beginning and hottest part of the training. Those big guys can lose 5-10 lbs of water a day pretty easily that they replentish. I'd say the weights of those big guys on any given day can be 15 lbs different than whatever they may have been the day or 2 or 3 before. The smaller skill guys is probably less but still 5 to 10 lbs of water weight wouldn't surprise me for them too
