Play in the UNI Dome?

don't know if this has been talked about here? Seems like a very reasonable idea to play in the Dome in December? Crowd size isn't a factor and it could help UNI in some really difficult times

So the U of Iowa is looking at a loss north of $50 million and you want them to pay UNI to rent the UNI Dome to help out UNI? I vote an astounding NO on that proposal.

This made me laugh.

So factoring out the crowd we'd go from playing at home which could have a neutral field feeling to it, to playing on a neutral field and being designated as the home team. I'm in favor of playing all our games on the road.

This season is a lame duck write-off no matter how you slice it. It will forever be an asterisk tattooed on the ass of the SEC, ACC, and B12. No B1G team is getting in the playoffs, no bowl games, and the B1G title game is a fart-in-the-wind afterthought. Whoever wins it is always going to to live with the qualifying statement, "yeah, but that was 2020." It will never get the respect of a full season title, not even 50 years from now. It'll be like the moronic Iowa fans who still call 2015 our "undefeated" season when we got defeated twice, one of them being a felony-level assault.

So...

Anything that makes things more interesting to watch, including shit weather that BOTH teams have to play in, is fine by me.

Going into December is going to make OSU more vulnerable than they would otherwise be. That's the only thing that is interesting about the B1G season. Otherwise, it sucks. It is clear OSU is better than everyone else. Maybe PSU can hold a candle to them. Maybe. I doubt it. They will trounce some hapless Western Division champion like they always do. They MIGHT lose a game to a mid-pack team when it's balls cold and they come out flat. Otherwise, meh. Don't care.

The only home game in December is December 12 against Wisconsin. Do you really want to play the potential west division championship game in the UNI Dome?

And of course the following week is champions week and of course that week Iowa will be playing at Lucas Oil Stadium. :)

I saw what you did there about the future.

This year I'm simply an outside observer watching exhibition games and rooting for Iowa. I'm not emotionally invested.

I ain't even got cable and can only draw Fox and NBC locally and I don't give enough shits to get cable or a live streaming service. My neighbor said I can watch parts of the Hox games if Clemson ain't on and another neighbor who went to Purdouche said we will watch that one, but we're planning to take our kids out to the mountains at least twice a month until the weather gets shitty so I'll prolly just watch the highlights. Now if we get to like 5-0 or 6-0, I'll sing a different tune, but if this is gonna be typical HokBall, I've seen enough and can survive off the game or two that might be on regular Fox.

I broke down like a spineless weasel and signed back up for YT tv last Tuesday. I'll disconnect it when basketball is over if they have it. I'm weak-minded.

My dad's been dead a decade and a half now and he and I never missed a Hawks football game, and my kid and I haven't yet either except for the Pinstripe Bowl when we were out ice fishing. I just can't bring myself to stop watching the Hawks for a year. Too many good memories. But the sunup to 11PM college football shit on Saturdays ain't happening this year. It'll only be the Hawks and a potentially interesting game here or there. And I'm ok with that.

Yeah, I feel ya. I remember when I deemed my dad deceased, at least with respect to football. He showed up at my apartment in Iowa City on October 16, 2004 wearing this heinous red sweatshirt that said Nebraska on it and then refused to go to the Iowa-OSU game so he could stay at my place and watch Nebraska play. Ugh. Talk about a fucking dagger. "Well I live in Omaha and I don't have an Iowa sweatshirt and I'm a Nebraska fan now." I'm glad we won so big that day.

Yes i would rather see a game with Wisconsin played in decent conditions than watch a game in a driving snow storm and my guess is so would the players. Thank goodness for the dome as it has made Highschool playoffs in Iowa so much better!

Why not? If we're relying more on Petras' arm, it would help to be in better conditions.

As for paying UNI, hard ball 'em. Make us a sweet deal, we've been handing you the big check every few years to come to Kinnick. (though they're not scheduled in the near future). We all know what a shrewd negotiator Barta can be. ;)

Nah got a nice traeger I just bought a few months ago. Maybe in a few years, the traeger fits enough for the amount of people I have come by now, maybe after Covid I'll reconsider it

"Do you really want to play the potential west division championship game in the UNI Dome?"
As opposed to in 10 degree weather and a 30 mph wind? Uh...yea, especially vs Wisconsin.

The game ain't gonna mean shit, it's a bastardized conference title this year.

Play that shit outside. You think Wisconsin would have a dome to tuck tail and run to because it was "too cold?" And since they're almost 100% likely to beat us anyway it'll look a whole lot dumber that we elected to play inside. Not only will we look like sissies, we'll look like dumb sissies that had a nebraska-esque idea backfire in our faces.

This year is a sunk cost. Play the shit outside so things are at least a little interesting, and get this year over with so we can start on next season.

Yeah, Purdue at Kinnick a few years ago when we got upset by them was just brutal weather. Not fun at all and half the crowd was gone before and by the second half. But no crowd this time just players maybe freezing.
