Obviously a lot more than just his foot has been amputated and note his left foot is also bandaged.

Not good. Wish only the best for him going forward. Hopefully he can fight diabetes and get back to what he does best, unfortunately diabetes doesn't quit.

Yes. Someone told me his foot was amputated than not long after they had to go and amputate more. It's just to bad.. Wouldn't be surprised if other foot is at risk.

I think you saw just how important Norm is to this program today. This football team played the way we all thought they would all year today, and I have no doubt that it was because this man was in the stadium. I think you can tell how much he means to KF, and the rest of this team. There was something different there today.
I pray he continues to heal. It really is sad to see him in this pic, because that isn't the Norm I'm used to seeing. I just hope the he can get this thing regulated. Keep fighting Norm.

Those are my exact same sentiments, I have no doubt this team would be 8-0 with Norm here every week.

I've always had the feeling the theory that Norm was more valuble to the Hawkeyes than Kirk. Don't know if there's any basis to this (probably isn't) but it's a feeling I've always had.

they might have went higher for the prostetic (sp?). Hopefully in the next 6-8 months he is able to get one, and be doing what he loves to do.

I believe he was in a cast on his right foot about 2 years before he lost it. Could be wrong, but I am pretty sure he was in one at the outback bowl in 2009. been in the booth since..... Hopefully this isn't an indication of things to come with the left foot being in a boot...

when it was initially was reported he had a foot amputated, there was an article indicating that something else was amputated as well. there was a thread on here regarding such. maybe he lost some toes on the other foot?

There's a standard length of leg that is left with a below knee amputation. It's what works best for a prosthesis. It shouldn't take him months to get his prosthesis (unless he has wound complications). Some get into their temporary prostesis as early as 3-6 weeks. The boot on his left looks like a Prayfo boot. It's meant to keep the other foot from getting a pressure ulcer in patients who aren't up and walking a lot.

FWIW, I saw Norm a few months ago. He actually looks better here than when I saw him last.

I heard Dantonio gave a call up to Norm before the game!! Just shows how much Norm is loved by everyone!!

Well Norm shows up and the defense pitchs a nearly perfect game. Coincidence.. I think not.
Glad to have Norm back even on a limited basis!

Great game HAWKS! Crowd was awesome, Defense was special. I was shaking the guy next to me in stands as Sash picked off Cousins & pitched it to Hyde who took it to the house. Set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.

Game ball to the whole team....It would have been awesome had Kirk pulled the whole defense off the field to an ovation & the Def salute Norm up in the booth.

It was truly great to see Norm back. No doubt it was an inspiration to the team. This photo shows just how nasty of a disease diabetes is. It is a progressive disease; it is not cured, it is not stopped. The best you can hope for is to slow the progression.

Thoughts and prayers to Norm that he is able to fight through all of this knowing he has the love and support of his Hawkeye family and friends, and that he can continue to coach as long as wants to.

Norm has always been more than just a DC. He is a vital member of the staff and a key part of the Iowa Football program. How good has our defense been the last 12 years? It's been GREAT. How consistent has our defense been? VERY.

Great to see coach back - even in a limited capacity his effect on the whole team is substantial.

Great game by the Hawks.

I sure hope someone from the staff or the university has put a call out to Cubs legend Ron Santo, who's had both legs amputated below the knee and kicked a$$ to get back and was walking around with prosthetics on both legs a lot sooner than anyone expected...I'm sure Norm has that same fight in him, but I'd love to see him getting some input from another of my favorite people who's gone through the same things.
