Peter Jok Invited to Nike Basketball Academy

Skills camp invites top players in college basketball

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa senior Peter Jok has been selected to participate in the 2016 Nike Basketball Academy, July 24-28, in Los Angeles.

According to the invitation, the Nike Basketball Academy will bring together some of best NBA talent including LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Davis to help the top 20-30 college athletes enhance their basketball skills in this elite camp.

Since 2007, Nike Basketball has hosted the best high school and collegiate players for position skills academies, along with top athletes in the NBA.

Hawkeye basketball players have been invited to this elite basketball camp each of the past two years: Aaron White(2014) and Jarrod Uthoff (2015).

He can shoot as well as anyone. It's getting him open looks that will be the challenge next year. It's a good chance for him to see how he stacks up. It can be humbling, and will give him an idea of how hard he needs to work to get to NBA-level. I think he can get there, whether he will remains to be seen.

Aside from the NBA thing, I really hope Moss lives up to Fran's 3pt hype he gave him. If we have legitimate 3pt threats from Jones, Jok, Moss, and maybe Uhl & Baer, it will probably be a lot easier to get Jok open more often.

Uhl was leading the conference at one point in 3pt %. He's a streaky shooter with sort of an awkward shot, but he definitely has the green light to shoot it when open.

I agree on Baer, if he can improve his shot that will be huge for us. He hit a few last year but also clanked a bunch. He put a lot of work into his shot prior to last year, and let's hope he continues to improve this year.

I'd also add, I'm hoping CW shows the willingness to shoot the 3, and can shoot somewhere in the 30% range. If he can do that it will open up a lot for others. Add to that Jo-Bo and BE, and we could have a really solid 3pt shooting team.

Imo, I want to see Jok improve his ball handling skills. Get past just being a catch and shoot guy. I am not talking so much about taking guys off the dribble, I am referring to using your handle to create spacing so you can shoot over the top of guys.

I wonder what sort of feedback Jok got during his NBA tour. Might he play some PG this year like Marble did a couple years ago just to keep the ball in his hands more? One area I think he could really improve is creating his own shot rather than coming off screens

Baer made 39.4% last year. I'll take that rate again. But he works his tail off so I suspect we will see improvement in all areas of his game.
