Performance Eval...

Listening to some of the banter on here I would think he finished 8th out of seven teams in the West.

But in all seriousness, he definitely underachieved this year. When a team like Northwestern loses three non con games and still wins the division that tells you all you need to know. A division that was there for the taking was pissed down our proverbial legs.

Like the basketball team, we return a lot of talent next year. Our back seven alone returns more people with starting experience than there are positions. This "lame ass, mediocre, toilet bowl" that many are bitching about is still a bowl. That means extra practices and that never hurts. It's also a huge advantage over those punks one state over, who don't get the benefit of those practices.

I would love to see Frost try to conduct an illegal off season practice on the day a couple of compliance officers are on campus. But since it's Saint Scotty they would probably give him a lollipop and a Fresca and say "Have a nice day."

I'm not going to defend the poor contract Barta negotiated with the bonus at 8 wins (that is a low bar and should be 9 or 10) but kudos to Kirk's agent. I could see him donating some of that back to the Children's Hospital. On the flip side, our 8-4 overall record is tied for 4th best among the 14 teams in the B1G. In my old workplace everyone got a bonus ... even the people who would be graded 14th out of 14.

We could go the route of Nebraska and hire a new coach every 3-4 years and get on that merry go-round and end up with back to back 4-8 seasons, while paying 3 coaches at the same time. That doesn't make financial sense either.

4th out of 7 in the Western Division. $1M+ bonus.

Wish I had that comp plan.

So you say we finished 4th in the West when the standings show us finishing in a tie for second.

I assume you say that since the two other teams that we are tied with beat us.

Well all the teams have different crossover games, PU had a historic win against OSU, while the hawks basically lost right at the end of the games against Wisky, jNW, PU, and Penn St.

I agree that a big bonus for winning 66% is sort of lame. I would think being the head coach of a very good historically P5 program you would pay for excellence which is the 10 game win mark. Iowa is not a blue blood but is a top 25-30 program.

Bonuses start at 7 wins, not 8. That's 58%...

I think we all know who the KF family gives thanks for every year...

Yep, 7 win bonus is even worse.

Now people say KF makes $5 mil a year but a post a few days ago said his base salary is $2.75 mill.. Can anyone verify this as I think 2.75 base is low and his potential bonuses dont add up to nearly 4.5 million.

What is KFs base salary?

A bonus for three scheduled wins and ecking out 4 more out of 9 games. Some years that's tough, like next year, but this year not so much. Winning 8 is the mark of above average, shouldn't bonus start there?

Yes, that's the tie breaker criteria per Big Ten rules.

I think people make WAY to big of a deal about the money, it's what the job pays and it's not coming out of my pocket. Criticize the job all you want but to me the money is irrelevant. This year is probably the most disappointed I've been in an Iowa football team in a long time. The West was theirs to win and Iowa crapped the bed, this includes both the players and the coaches.

I'm pretty sure Kirk would still be Kirk no matter where you set his bonus level. Kirk is making big money, but he isn't a satisfied fat cat by any means. Kirk has his ways of going about things, some of that is good, some not so good.

He's just not an offensive mind. That isn't saying he's clueless about how offenses work. Quite to the contrary. He's slavishly formulaic. Even when he deliberately breaks form, like all the trick plays the last few years, he quickly becomes formulaic about doing it. The funny thing about that, is before a few years ago trick plays would be a rare occurrence. He even had trouble anticipating other coaches doing it to him. Now the trick plays and going for it on fourth down are common parts of each game, even when it makes marginal sense.

These are just a couple examples. We could just as easily talk about how Kirk's teams hold onto leads late in games. Kirk has always leaned heavily on his defense late in games. It hasn't always been that way. Beathard led teams would frequently would rally late in the game, but that seems to be the exception to the rule.

This stance is lame as hell. Along with top money comes accountability and high expectations...neither of which have been a part of the lifelong and never ending kf experience. Not only that, he has free reign to scholarship unlimited family members and friends family members and same goes to hiring them. If you made a list of them, like any out state media would have done by now, there would be public embarrassment nationally

Oh, is that YOUR money they are paying him? Complaining about how much they are paying him, to me, is "lame as hell". The amount of money a coach is being paid has no bearing on what happens on the field of play.

Please don't give me the "he is a State employee" bull crap because he is not paid using public money. I suppose you could make some kind of case on his kids getting free scholarships to attend the university but that's fairly small compared to what he is being paid and I didn't see that being part of the OP's comment. Besides, I am sure Iowa is not the only university that gives family members free education as part of their coaches benefit package.

Who is saying we should get a new coach every 3 years?

He’s been here for 20 freaking years, I don’t think we’re in danger of moving on too soon.
