Penn State brings back Paterno

Let's just say, I don't have children of my own, but if I did, they would never set foot in that town. Very twisted and sick mentality going on there.

What I would like to know is what are us outsiders not getting? So many in Happy Valley claim that people far removed from PSU are not getting the whole story. Well what is is?
To me it's a clear-cut example of needing the death-penalty. Textbook case of loss of institutional control. To not have lowered the meat axe makes a mockery of all things NCAA.

I was Joe P fan for years. That ended quickly. I have had some say Joe reported to a superior and did his job. I disagree. Joe should have done more then what he did. He should have handled it as if it was his grandson in that shower.

The only way that statue should be coming back is if they have put him in prison stripes. He didn't brush recruiting violations under the rug or disguise booster impropriety, he enabled a pedophile to hurt children.

I would argue that Paterno had NO superior. He was the program, the athletic department and was the sole arbiter of fates.

A little disclaimer first: I'm not defending Joe P., nor any of the rest. I think they are all guilty as sin. But there is another side to this, literally mountains of information that was not used, overlooked, left out, whatnot. I first heard of this a couple years back. I'll post the link below. But at times it makes for an interesting, if not compelling discussion.

Have you read this stuff? Or seen the videos? I'm not interested in doing so, but it would be interesting to hear from someone who has. At first glance, it seems like a bunch of stuff that shows how badly it was all handled, but not really changing the essence of the situation.

I agree. That's not the kind of thing you would forget about, ever. Even if you believe it was unintentional Joe Pa and associates had 10+ years to bring the situation to light but chose not to.

This is a really good perspective. If he would have done anything differently if it was his grandson, then he was certainly wrong in what he did.

I listened to the entire interview the guy did with Glenn Beck. In the hands of the right attorney it could probably be worked to some level. It's pretty interesting to me, like how and why wasn't some of this included before.

I heard that same interview and was shocked. I had heard some stuff from family in Pennsylvania but didmissed it as hearsay. After that interview, I ALMOST went to the site, but then realized, in the grand scheme of things, it's over and done with from a "public perspective". If Sandusky and his lawyers continue to fight it, that's his right. I just don't care enough, anymore, to follow it so closely. But...it does make you wonder...

Lots of good stuff going on in that town...

‘Heart-wrenching and incomprehensible’: 18 fraternity members charged in Penn State hazing death

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2017/05/05/heart-wrenching-and-incomprehensible-18-fraternity-members-charged-in-penn-state-hazing-death/?utm_term=.c5c1d35ff149

Like it or not (I would assume you're in the "anti-Greek" category) stuff like that has happened at pretty much every campus that's ever had a fraternity system. Not every place has seen pledges die, but EVERY campus has gone through fraternity/sorority "abuse". Florida universities/colleges seem to always have a "house" or three on "probation". Not sure of any available stats on "double secret probation".
