Payton Sandfort Returning to Iowa

Freeman could/should have a coming out nationally type of year. The Big 10 already knows who he is. 15 pounds of muscle would do him some good.

We have a lot of interesting options at 4. Whether we go with the true paint guys that can bang, rebound, and play D, or even stretch Payton up for a more finesse squad. We have good options.

We should be salty at the wing positions with the Sanford boys, Dix, and Koch. All Fran system guys to a T.

The question mark, as it almost always is at Iowa, is the PG. Would love to see Harding take on the starting role so Dix can play more off ball, but my suspicion is that Dix starts at the 1 with Harding getting 12-15 minutes per game. If Iowa can sort out the PG position, this is a very good team that goes at least 8 deep with quality Big Ten players.

Agreed.

Acquiring an all big ten point guard has been Fran’s achilles heel. I know they don’t grow on trees but since Fran played the guard position in college you would think this would be a strong point for him. Hopefully Harding will be that guy. Ronnie Lester didn’t manifest himself until his sophomore year and hopefully Harding does the same. The lack of success at this position has really hindered the program especially during March Madness.

Something needs to revive the fan base that seems to be near life support status.

Harding will always have a height problem but he's very quick, and usually knew where he was going. We haven't seen his court vision at Iowa since Ronnie Lester. Brock adds a reliable 3 point shot and he's going to be hard to guard, will require defensive adjustments when he's got the ball. We will see a lot of Harding to Freeman to a dunks or layups.

This year's team looks like a good one and exciting. Py is going to average over 20/8 this season. We have quality players, although 4 might be a question, but Ladji has the potential to be a mean player at 4. Two good starting guards. Depth at center is uncertain, as at guard. The five starters, however, look like a solid squad.
