Parental advice for game days-needed

Hey gang I need some good advice. I guess I ask my question at the bottom of the page underlined.

This year I will be able to actually use my season tix and my 6th grad son has developed a HUGE appetite for hawkeye football.

I am very concerned about things this year though. I am not one of those parents who likes to shelter my kids from the "world" but I am very concerned about the game day scene at kinnick. In years past game day situations were much better for children but this year could be an exception for taking small children to the games. I do plan on having a heart to heart with my son before setting out for kinnick each weekend but I am a little concerned about when we get inside the actual stadium. I may even be inclined to cover his eyes whenever something happens that may not be good for him to see. I could just not take him to the games but it could easily be a great bonding experience.

DOes anyone have advice on what to do for my son when the Iowa defense takes the field. I don't want to create some sort of traumatic situation that may disturb him:D

The walk to Kinnick will be more likely to make you want to cover his eyes, than actually being in the stadium. Ear muffs inside the stadium would be good, because language is about the only consistent issue.

Um dude....my post was a joke.. If you read the last line. Good Grief.

Don't take him. It might be a tramatic experience when he has to call mommy to bail you out of jail because you crossed the street with an opened beer in your hand. ;)

The only trauma inside the stadium this year will be for opposing fans. :)

Yes but I have visions of opposing QBs being decapitated and scenes similar to the movie 300.

Explain to him that sometimes theft and violence are good things.

Good one OZHAWK: If they still have the party bus & Melrose & Melrose that would provide a learning experience for your son that he won't soon forget. However you might want blinders for him.

Tell him the opposing teams are freedom hating terrorists. Then anything that happens after that should be just fine. Well, unless your son is a freedom hating terrorist.

tell him ricky stanzi is a hawkeye. ricky stanzi is one hell of a patriot. anyone who isn't a hawkeye can't be a true patriot making them terrorists. its okay to kill terrorists

If I were you I would bring two pairs of binocs and tell him to stay focused on the cheerleaders and dancers. I would loan him mine but I'm too busy staring at them all the time...

Nothing about the gameday atmosphere scares me more than the prospect of my son witnessing the Iowa Defense take the field. Thats all.

Son it's a quick pain.......like pullin off the band aid........they scream but they will feel better later.......much later

Just tell him that bad things happen to bad people. Anyone not wearing black and gold qualifies as being "bad people."
