Painter Staying @ Purdue

Wonder if this little exercise will have any negative impact on Painter with the Purdue fans?

We went through similar escapades with a past coach that started to weigh heavily on the fans here in Iowa.

Now that he is staying at Purdue will Jon Miller change his tune and say he is a great coach and all coaches in the Big 10 are great coaches? Just kidding Jon! : )

Painter has done a great job at Purdue but he may have some rough sledding in the next few years.

I live here in Columbia and Mizzou's facilities are new and very nice but there was no way Painter was ever leaving Purdue. He leaves there, his choice, for only 4-5 schools, big, big name basketball schools. He has and will continue to do well at Purdue, maybe 1 or 2 down years but he should be pretty consistently in the top on the big ten. Hope we can say that about the Hawks here pretty soon.

ICWest are there any other names being thrown around down there
since Painter is not coming to Mizzou?

Is it just a coincidence that Mizzou has now twice been used as a stalking horse by big ten coaches in an attempt extort more money from their current employer?

He was never going to go to Missouri. Just a ploy for more cash...when will schools start suing these guys for breach of contract??? Just really pisses me off, coaches want the school to be stuck...but leave in a heartbeat.

Smart,

I have not heard a lot about the a new coach other than C. Martin, now Tenn, and Painter. If I had to pick a coach I would look at Chris Mack at Xavier. I know that Kevin Stallings has some tie to St Lou. Other than that, there will be talk about Shaka and maybe Grant at Alabama. Everything I have heard to this point has been Painter so anything is possible down here in Missery! Sorry couldn't be more help.

Well in Painter's case, I think it's fair for him to do what he did. He is vastly underpaid for what he's put on the floor, and his assistants apparently haven't been paid well at all. If I'm at my alma mater, I'd be willing to do just about anything to get the AD to start treating basketball as a priority, rather than look for every way to cut costs (even when it can hinder the program's progress). Especially at a school like Purdue. Their athletic image is almost entirely about men's basketball. Kind of like Kansas (Purdue's not on that level, but the amount of their identity that is made up by basketball is pretty close, IMO). And you don't see the Jayhawks cutting costs when it comes to basketball.
