Packers to interview Pat Fitzgerald

Could Fitz be pulling a Ferentz? Using the NFL as leverage to get a big raise? If NW believes that Firz will never leave, they will never pay him as much as Ferentz.

He deserves it, it’s really incredible what he has accomplished there. Even though I can’t stand him, I respect what he’s accomplished. Undoubtedly the most underrated coach in the country.

As a fan of both GB and Iowa, please go Pat.

Let's just hope he didn't have any of his guys in the coaching ranks that happened to get hurt against us.

I think this is exactly what he's doing. He was #10 in the Big Ten (KF was 6th) in salary. Don't know if they can pay him more, but he deserves to be higher than 10th.

i thought this was fitz' first year of his new contract? i could be wrong, but i thought so.

I think the Packers might be looking at a guy who works for the Outback Bowl to be their new marketing director. I mean, its so hard to sell Packers tickets up in Green Bay they really need to pay a guy a lot of money to market the local NFL team to get fans to show up. He might even have a bright idea like firing giant blocks of cheese out of a cheese cannon after every touchdown. This is valuable stuff and the guy is in high demand, they need to move fast.

Any chance they might want a siren to go with their cannon? I know where they can get one of those, too.

I wonder if Harbaugh, also coaching at his B1G alma mater, would jump at the chance to coach Aaron Rodgers. Or if there's anything to read into the Packers not appearing to be considering Jimmy.

The Packers are expected to interview 10-12 guys, so I wouldn't put a lot of stock into Fitzgerald at this point. Mark Murphy knows and likes him, but, at the end of the day, I'm expecting someone currently in the NFL to get the position.

College coaches take time to adjust to the NFL (and many never do), and the Packers don't have the luxury of time - Rodgers only has 4-5 good seasons left in him, and, thanks to Ted Thompson, the roster is almost devoid of young talent. That combination also makes the Packers a tough sell to any coach right now.

There is no way Fitz takes this job. He's not stupid. His schtick would get really old in the NFL with veteran players. He's a motivation guy, and the NFL, is more Xs and Os. Certainly, motivation is important...but I just see his rah rah antics getting old. Maybe it's because I don't like him...but that's my take.

As a hawk fan, I wouldn’t mind seeing Pat butas a Packers fan, I don’t trust a college guy to take over an NFL program.

I’m hoping the Packers get McDaniels.
