Over/Under on days til Yuichi Komano falls on his sword

Was at lunch today just at the time when the penalty kicks started in the World Cup match. If you didnt see it, Yuichi Komano from Japan missed his kick off the top bar, i expected to see him pull out a sword and fall on it but he didn't.

This would amount to all the time spent watching the world cup, it was more than enough. I will admit i could care less about soccer but it may be more enjoyable if the penalty kicks were a little more realistic. If the goalie doesn't guess exactly where the player will kick it he has no shot. Maybe move it out to the top of the circle instead, make it more of a challenge.

I agree. Neither goalie was close to stopping a shot. I started watching this match at the same time as you did and got the impression from the first kick that the reality would be 5-5 after the PKs.

The advantage is supposed to go to the kicker. That is why it is called a penalty kick. During a game situation penalty kicks are awarded because a defender prevented a likely goal inside the penalty area. Therefore, the advantage in the penalty kick is intentionally slanted to the kicker. I guess they could use something other than penalty kicks to decide play-off ties, but they seem to work OK. They could use a coin flip to award the first kick with whomever scores first winning like in the NFL.
