OutofTownHawk: Inside out shooting?

Iowa doesnt do a lot of inside out shooting. Other teams drive and when the the defense doubles they kick out for the 3.

Is this because of Iowas size? Does fran just want to keep the ball inside and play the odds of Iowa rebounding and having a put back?

Could this be the reason for Iowa not shooting the 3 as well?

Woody is the best passer from the post but he is not in with JO very often.

It's a good observation and you see teams do it to us all the time. I watch a lot of Creighton games, being from the Omaha area and that's basically their bread and butter on offense and they run it beautifully. I personally LOVE that Iowa doesn't rely on the outside shot to be successful because I think that's weak to hang your head on such a low percentage shot. But you could be on to something, our offensive sets don't really do the drive and kick like a lot of other teams for 3's.

It's more of a function of the offense teams run. Some team, like ISU, run a lot of iso plays and dribble/drive/kick offense. Some teams, like Iowa, run more of a motion offense where the emphasis is on screening, cutting and curling, so there isn't a lot of standing around and waiting for the ball to be kicked out to you after a throw into the post or a drive to the paint. For overall offense, I like ours much better....but if you need that one big shot or that one big dagger play, offenses like the one ISU runs seem so much better and more effective.

You have it backwards. You want to shoot from OUTSIDE and have the ball go IN the hoop. That's basketball 101.

Im not saying Iowa should look to do this a lot just more wondering why they dont. My thought is that when they get the ball inside theyd rather keep it in there because of Iowas size.
