Wow. These columns posted on this site are incredible. It seems like they think this season is out of the norm. An anomaly. Just poor execution. Wait til next year crap.
Why are these Men and Women such fan boys? What is it that they are afraid to call a spade a spade?

I hardly ever read the press conference transcripts in the last 3-4 years as nothing new, no good questions, etc.

It would be nice if the press would try to get some answers or ideas what the coaches are thinking.

By and large the Iowa sports media are fawning accolytes in the Church of Ferentz. Moderators of this site included. I witnessed it first hand for years.

About the only hard-hitter was the Register’s Tom Witosky. But he was left in Des Moines to write researched articles like ticket scandals. Never had to cover mediocre, over-paid coaches per se.

In a larger, more competitive market, Ferentz and his middling spawn would have been ridiculed out of town years ago.

The presumed expectation is about 7-9 wins. Iowa may well hit that. They don't loses their heads each time that iowa loses a game. This isn't your Father's Purdue ya know.

No in most markets not ridiculed. I wouldnt want that.

There would be harder questions in most markets.

Ultimately the real issues are a result of behinds sitting in seats and money flow in. Advertisers dont want to pay for ads in print of negative articles. The readers want fluff by and large. We re ok. Im ok. The world is ok....and so on.

I'd suggest taking the new White House approach. Bag the meaningless press conferences and just let the Iowa staff tweet out the 'news' after.
