St. Johns rumored to be willing to make their next coach highest paid in D-1 basketball. Auburn rumored to be down to four candidates with UTEP'S Barbee being their first choice.

My gut tells me if Barbee was at the top of Barta's list he would be getting a serious visit from our AD.

All I have to say is Barta better have something moving on this. Otherwise these coaches are going to be working for different schools.
From what I have heard, no credible sources or anything so take it for what it's worth, Barta has made an offer to Brian Gregory and he turned him down. Also made an offer to Greg Marshall with no response yet.
I personally think that if this is this case these are two terrible options. Neither one of these candidates does anything for me.

Marshall is the head coach at Wichita State. Ive honestly never heard of the guy. If we are going to hire a coach from the MVC i think there is one pretty obvious choice and his 1st name isnt Greg

Greg Marshall won big at Winthrop and went from 11 wins in year on to 25 in year three at Wichita State. He is a very good coach. Not sure on his recruiting ability at a Big Ten level. Not too interested in the third coach in a row learning about recruiting on the job.

Just from interviews with Marshall, the guy has a salesman aura to him. While he might not have the connections yet, I think this guy will have no problems wading through the grey of the recruiting game.

Either Barta is doing a whale of a job keeping something big from leaking out, or he is having NO luck whatsoever in finding someone decent who's interested.. What about the Scott Drew and the "mutual interest" rumor from the other day? Any more on that?

If those are true (and I doubt they are) then Barta needs to be removed. I doubt he'd hire either of them given the situation of Iowa basketball.

It was found on a different message board. That is all. Which is specifically why I said "take it for what it's worth". The point of posting it was to give a topic of conversation of Greg Marshall. He is a name that has not come up very much, and it also points out that if this is who Barta is really looking at there are some issues.
