OT ...Peyton Manning

Not when I'm on Spring Break. Being a teacher I am observant by nature. Thanks for your concern Mr. Mexico, much appreciated.

It is kind of sad that the Colts let him (and Dallas Clark) go. I guess I don't really understand the moves that they are making right now...

I believe Dallas Clark underperformed last season solely because Peyton was not playing. Hell, nearly the whole team played like crap... they ended up in last place.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Peyton drafted by the Colts? He has been there his whole career and has brought them A LOT of success... he completely turned around the organization and changed the culture of football in the city.

Where is the loyalty? A guy does all that for you and is loyal to the team for that many years and you just let him go? If anything, I think it would be beneficial for RG3/Luck to play behind Manning for a year or so and learn from him. I'm just not really understanding what the Colts are doing right now.

Anyone on here that is more knowledgeable about the Colts and/or the NFL that can shed some light on the situation?

i'm pretty sure the colts are in total rebuild mode. i don't blame them one bit for planning to draft a star QB and building the team up around him.

I wondered today why Colts didn't pay him his roster bonus then get into a bidding war for either the 1st pick or manning? I think the roster bonus was about 20 million but the picks and players they could have got for him would have been huge. 20 million to these owners is no big deal.

It's a business...with the new collective bargaining now in force, and a lower pay scale for new players to the league, among many other variables, they ultimately are just taking some money off the table.

Most successful teams cannot be held together very long with-in a few years of their success, free agency hits most of the stars and maintaining all those higher salaries becomes impossible. Sometimes teams can recreate the success over a few years, or even 5 or 6 or 7, but if you look at the rosters of these exceptions from the rise of their initial success to its pinnacle year before their demise, the names are very different, with the exception of a few superstar mainstays including the QB (see NE or Pitt). This is why certain organizations are more successful than others on a regular basis (in addition to coaching, trading, drafting). They are better on the business end at juggling the numbers and players within the cap.

- I'm pretty sure the Colts paid Manning every penny that his contract stated they should.

- With an aging offensive line/diminishing o-line play and a defense in need of a major overhaul, not sure Peyton would have flourished in that environment given he is coming off a neck injury.

- At 35ish years old, I think Peyton wants to play more than another year or 2.

- Given Peyton's neck injury, a $20M roster bonus and another $15-19M a year for 4-5 more years was more risk than the Colts were willing to take. Especially with Luck sitting there to take at #1.

- Sometimes its better for both parties move on at the end of a contract.
