Osborne lobbying Big Ten?

The only way Nebraska will ever join the Big 10 (which it wouldn't be with Nebraska in it, but that's besides the point), is if the Big 10 decides to add 3 teams.

It's pretty easy to read between the lines of what Osborn and the Mizzou people have been saying.

"Pick me! Pick me! Oh, please, please pick me!"

They're like the fat, awkward kids waiting to be picked on teams during 3rd grade recess.

Kinda pathetic that they have to use the media to say they're interested in expansion. Ever heard of back-channels, Tom?

I would LOVE to have Nebby join the big ten. As much as I hate Nebraska I hate ISU the more. If Nebby came to the Big Ten Their games with ISU would end and ISU's revenue would take a HUGE hit. THe implosion of the big 12 should scare the Heck out of the clones. Which is somthing that makes me giggle.

The old joke that the N on the helmet stood for "Nowledge" is truer than not
as Nebraska does not belong to the American Association of Universities.
All the Big Ten schools are members. Academically speaking, Nebraska does
not qualify for inclusion in the Big Ten. It is an at will school. As a resident
of Nebraska, you are admitted if you pay the tuition.

I believe that is factually incorrect. Someone posted a link several weeks ago that indicated...while all current Big 10 schools belong to the American Association of Universities...it is NOT a requirement.

It's an interesting scenario: Nebraska and Missouri to the Big 10 as the Big 10 expands to 14.

Then there are rumors that Colorado could be lured by the Pac-10.

Even if Colorado stayed with the Big 12, it would still leave ISU on an island where their nearest remaining Big 12 foe is Kansas and Kansas State. Not a very appealing situation for ISU.

It would make me giggle as well, and they deserve it for delaying episodes of LOST throughout the past 6 years.

Nebraska actually does belong to the AAU and while they are worse than all current B10 members academically they aren't all THAT bad. They are probably at the very bottom of what would be considered though.

Nebraska joined the AAU the same year as Iowa (1909). Nebraska was ranked by different organizations as #96 of all AAU schools (for the record, Northwestern-Evanston was in the top 10) as best schools in the AAU for 2009.

For the record, here is a list of AAU members:
Association of American Universities

Here are some members that actually have football teams that aren't in California (geography has to count a little for Big Ten expansion?):
Iowa State University (1958)
Rice University (1985)
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (1989)
Syracuse University (1966)
Texas A&M University (2001)
Tulane University (1958)
The University of Arizona (1985)
University at Buffalo, The State University of New York (1989)
University of Colorado at Boulder (1966)
University of Florida (1985)
The University of Kansas (1909)
University of Maryland, College Park (1969)
University of Missouri-Columbia (1908)
University of Nebraska-Lincoln (1909)
University of Pittsburgh (1974)
The University of Texas at Austin (1929)
University of Virginia (1904)
Vanderbilt University (1950)

Notre Dame ain't on the list.
