Son of late NFL star will pick between SEC, Oklahoma | College Recruiting | www.ajc.com

Unfortunately we did not make the cut for the final three. Orlando is the one that was looking at Iowa because his late father had tremendous respect for Kirk back from Kirk's NFL days. He was a kid that was born and raised in the middle of SEC country though so it doesn't shock me at that he has three SEC schools as his final three. As long as the SEC continues to monopolize the high end talent found down in the south the BoneG will suffer mightily...

Never getting him on campus for a visit erased any chance Iowa had at landing Brown. I really hope the NCAA someday allows official visits in the spring of players' junior years.

plus the deck is stacked in the SEC's favor - with the Alabama kid recently tweeting about $, and that Maryland OL that came down to AL and IA and stories are he asked the iowa staff about $ and was told 'we don't do that here'.......little surprise these high-end kids chose SEC.

Because its not like his brother is playing for Alabama silmultaneously. Or that they just won a third BCS title in 4 years. Or had two lineman taken in the top 11 last night. Nope, he was payed. I am an Iowa fan and I am sticking to it.

Does all of that change the fact that some SEC players get paid?

of course it doesn't. not once did i say we lost the kid just because of $. But the story is still there, and it is a factor and may or may not be the reason he chose AL. pretty brett clown just mad.

maybe i missed this...can you elaborate please? or point me in the right direction about the tweet and the maryland OL

Sounds to me like his respect for KF was nowhere near what we were led to believe in previous articles, at least not enough to seriously consider Iowa. Then again we're talking about one of the top OL prospects in the entire country. Even with our record of talent development Iowa is a tough sell to a kid outside the state getting that level of attention from recruiters.

The only problem I had is that initial reports gave the impression that this kid was nearly a lock for the Hawks when in reality we weren't even in the game.

That's what the recruiting sites do, and that is how they sell subscriptions. They oversell comments and twist them. I don't believe anything that recruits "say" on those sites. You never know what is true or false.

Not sure if the "stories" are true, but if so, then yeah - it's no wonder Iowa is losing players to other programs. $$$ makes a pretty good sales pitch to potential recruits. As has been said "If you aren't cheating, then you aren't trying". Either that, or the NCAA needs to start coming down hard on programs that pay players. Yes, even if it's Alabama.

All I want is a level playing field. Either everybody cheats, or nobody cheats (in a perfect world). This will sound bad, but if other programs are going to cheat, then Iowa may as well. Otherwise, don't complain when top players go elsewhere.

You make some excellent points. But, why stop with just paying them money?

The SEC stories are absolutely true. I have a colleague that is a huge LSU booster. He owns an offshore drilling company in Houma La. Drugs, women and $$$. Told me when they put hot women, cash and drugs in front of an 18 year old poor kid with a hard on, it's over. On top of it, this guy cant stand Les Miles, but he said "We still get kids for him, just like we did Dinardo and Saban".
