Oregon has 55 4 or 5 star recruits

I think CIgnetti is some sort of God Damned Warlock. The job he has done with this team is unprecedented. By the recruiting stars, Indiana has roughly the same talent as Tulane. By performance, they are the most dominant team in the country by a mile. How does he do this?

Gives me a little hope that it could happen some day at Iowa.

Sure, but something like this has never happened before, so what are the odds of it happening again in our lifetime, and coincidentally happening to our favorite team?

Counterpoint: maybe we cannot compare this day and age to the history of CFB, as NIL has upended everything.

Counter-counterpoint: we do not have a Mark Cuban.

You know we came dang close this past season. All we needed was a couple of breaks in those 4 losses. We proved we could compete with Indiana, I was at that game and we should have won.

Absolutely, our current approach of incrementalism is moving us in the right direction. I think we have smart people who are adapting to the current environment. I think the fact they have always run things like a "pro" team have prepared them well for this era of professional-amateurism. I think they have a tremendous culture, and I think they could easily find their way into the CFP and win a game.

I just don't think they are going to transform into the most dominant teams in CFB overnight, like Indiana did. I also don't think there is another Cignetti out there, I believe he broke the mold. I do think his success will result in some much deserved opportunities for really talented lower-level coaches, and hopefully we can break out of the P4-retread cycle. I just think what happened at Indiana is NOT going to be repeatable, though undoubtedly many teams will try.

^^Agreed.^^

I was there also and we had the game won. Make a FG. Convert an easy screen pass...and we win.

I consider this one of the best Iowa teams, talent wise, in a decade if not longer...although the final record might not indicate it. But if one does some actual research, it bears out.

Side note...we came oh-so-close to the CFP (before they watered down the acceptance pool) when we lost that heart-breaker to MSU at Lucas Oil. I was at that one too.
