I have heard a couple different start times in the last couple of days. (1:00, 10:30) Just wondering if anyone knows for sure?

Thanks

I attended the first half of practice today and will provide a few pics for those interested later tonight after I've finished watching the FB game.

Pics from the informal dunk show which kicked off their practice can be found at IowaSportsPictures.com and like many others have already stated, this team certainly looks to be getting more and more athletic.

White & Brommer - DNP due to injury

Oglesby seems to have nice length, a smooth release on his jumper and an overall good feel for court spacing, etc.

Gabe - going to potentially be that high-energy "Mr Hustle" type of guy that could potentially fill the void left by Cole (at least on the boards and defensively). The only shots I saw were put back dunks (2) and a 6-footer that was partially blocked by Archie. Defensively he again could potentially help block a few shots but I foresee him getting duped into committing some silly fouls at least early on in the year.

May - has spent some time working on his baseline jumper but still went 1-2 however perhaps the most positive sign was that the game appears to be slowing down for him when he is bringing the ball up the court so ball-handling is improving.

Gatens & Cartwright - seemed ready for the season to get underway

Basabe - definitely bulked up in the off-season and continues to look more and more comfortable stepping out to 8-12ft for the mid-jumper similar to what Cole had developed last season

McCabe - may need a little time to work on conditioning now that he is carrying a little extra weight as he bulks up to focus on playing the 4.

Archie - had a couple of nice post-up moves down low and I believe he can be effective offensively this season so long as we get him the ball in good position with 5-10ft of the bucket. One additional note on Archie was a very nice behind-the-back bounce pass to Basabe on a fastbreak while in full stride so Archie currently the starting center spot appears his to lose, especially with Brommer re-injuring his knee but defensive positioning still needs some work to avoid the cheap fouls.

Marble - also looks stronger but still tried to force a shot or two during the scrimmage. He and Cartwright look to still be the two best options at breaking down their defender in terms of getting to the rack at this time but would like to see Marble look for the dump-off to Basabe/Archie a bit more once he gets into the lane as he missed at least one assist to Gabe today.

Stubbs - ran the point for gold team opposite Cartwright and did a decent job, however, I believe Marble or perhaps even Oglesby will slide over to point if needed once the season is underway.

Stokes - another guy that has probably added 20-25lbs to his frame since the beginning of last season. I don't think he will see much playing time but certainly gives them a quality practice guy who could turn into a defensive specialist sort of role.

Cox, Denning, McCarty - did not scrimmage while I was there

I was really impressed with Oglesby, he seems mature for a Freshman. He has a nice shooting touch.

Olaseni has GOT to put on some muscle.

I cannot see Stokes getting much action this year.

The one thing I did not care for with Archies game is his willingness to even attempt a jumper. They were running drills where you were to catch the ball 5-8 feet away from the basket, turn, and shoot. He would go in and slam it every time.

Archie is doing him, he can't shoot. the most he has is hook shots.

Archie does actually have a short turnaround jumper if he chooses to use it and he spins to the lane (baseline looked much less consistent). Gabe showed decent form on the very limited shots I saw him put up but will need to learn how to avoid getting blocked as I am sure he was used to simply shooting over defenders last season.

Exactly. I watched the first practice last year and they were having Archie actually shoot the ball as opposed to one-dribble and dunk. It was not pretty. There were a few air-balls from the short corner. The coaching staff has correctly told him, do you - go strong to the rack and dunk on people. Especially with only 1 year left in the program.
