Only difference between Iowa and Wisconsin right now is.....

Attitude

Bielema and this program have a chip on their shoulder. Maybe a little more arrogance than a KF program, but I see the same attitude from Wisconsin right now that I saw as KF started getting things rollning in 2002. Say what you want about him, but right now, he has this program playing with an attitude that says "bring your lunch pail if you play us, and we are going to find a way to beat you."

Next year will be interesting to see what they do at QB, but he definitely has the program buying into what he is preaching. He's winning, and it's oozing out of him and his program. It's the type of attitude you have to have if you want to create a winning formula, environment, and culture.

Wisconsin has a bigger offensive line, a very good QB and a pretty darn good running back too. I'd say it goes beyond attitude.

The other difference is five rose bowl trips since 1993...we have how many again in that same time......

This may shock you but I agree with this......THAT is our problem. Somehow or another we lost our edge and our intensity and attitude and I don't know why?! Now it is KF's job to find it, but I don't necessarily blame him for it getting lost, but its gone all the same.

PS....you could say several head line teams have lost their Mojo. FSU, Texas, maybe even OU!

That's right.

Bigger offensive line doesn't mean better. I'd say both the Iowa Oline and Coker are pretty close to Ball and their Oline. I don't mind saying Wisky is better, but it's not as if the gap is huge.

I'll give you the Russell Wilson being much better than JVB as a leader. There is definitely a gap in the QB's. But again, it goes back to an attitude that a leader, especially a QB, has to have. But I also think that attitude is infectious right now in the Wisky lockeroom, whatever position you play.

We need a coach and a coaching staff who are hungry again.

I compare Wisky this year to last year's Iowa club. This Wisky club lost 2 heartbreaking games...now in Rose Bowl. Last year's Iowa club lost 2 heartbreaking games....then the bottom fell out. Worst part....Adrian Clayborn saying that Iowa team "lost the will to win".

All about attitude. Wisky is playing with a different mindset...that has to be the first thing KF changes in his program.

Attitude is the majority of it. In the early 2000's, Iowa was the bully in the Big 10. They may not have been the best team but they were the most physical. That title has now been passed to the Badgers.
I think that is a hidden factor in the angst among some of the people on the message boards. It isn't just the underachieving of a year ago coupled with bounce back year that people were hoping would happen, but the rise of the program to the Northeast is on people's minds. You could argue that from 2001-2009 that Iowa was the 3rd or 4th best program in the Big 10 and now Wisconsin has passed us for the time being.
As far as this year, Russell Wilson was huge for them. I honestly feel Iowa wins 10 games with him at QB this year and that isn't meant as a knock on Vandenburg. They definitely don't win the Big 10 without him this year.

The difference between Iowa and Wisconsin is Wisconsin has the best QB and RB in the league. Sorry dude, but you can't quantify "attitude", nor can you assess it by watching games on TV.

Wisconsin maybe getting another QB transfer for next year. Dayne Crist is leaving Notre Dame and is rumored to be looking Wisconsin. That could be good for the rest of the league.

Wisconsin is 7 & 5 without RW. They would have started a freshman I believe. They will come back to earth next year. Iowa will be near the same as this year with an even easier schedule than this year. No mojo.

Agree completely. While it's the rule (transfers), I still think the Badgers wouldn't have been anywhere without Wilson, no matter the rest of their team.

I think the rule stinks personally, but that is what allowed them to be what they are this year.

I honestly think WI without Wilson is a 7-5 team.

It's not that difficult to grasp - without Russel Wilson the BADgers are just another average team.

I believe I saw this somewhere else on the forum a couple weeks ago, so I'm going to quote this: "It's the talent stupid". Not really my feelings, but somewhat true.

I'd say talent and that's attributable to recruiting. Wisconsin has some talented recruiters on staff and with their head coach. They are now at the stage where they can compete nationally for talent......watch where they finish this year.

Example - look back to 2001 when Bielema left the Iowa program. He was bringing in the FL recruits at that time to Iowa due to his efforts over time with our program. We had 13 of his FL recruits in on our 2002 team that finished 11-2. He has 14 currently on his WI team, we have 4.

It's not that FL is the answer to all recruiting issues but it points out the fact that they can recruit. Russell Wilson is another example. There were numerous programs after his services. He didn't just fall into WI's arms. Another example might be how his staff has built a wall around the state of WI. We used to get a number of pretty good contributors from WI.....not so much anymore.

Talent can make a more conservative offense/defense look pretty formidable even at Iowa. MI and WI have both been improving their talent levels in the last several years and that's one of the reasons they played for the BIG title last night.
