Only a 6 point loss on the road to a top 10 team

Just flush it and take care of business. But, Iowa does need to work on their team free throw shooting....especially with road games on the backend of the schedule. We can still win the Big Ten.

I'm more disappointed than frustrated. If we could have made anything down the stretch it probably would have been a different outcome. We just couldn't hit any 3's late and our free throw shooting has really fallen off the past few games which is very concerning.

If Uthoff's late three rattles in we still may pull that one out.

21% isn't gonna win the game. I don't think....

If not for those 2 late phantom foul calls against Adam Woodbury the result may have been different anyways. Iowa had the lead before he went out with the 4th, then they quickly called the 5th when Maryland #33 PUSHED HIM.

I think that announcer Dan Jockich might have something to do with it. Isn't he the guy that was bad mouthing him last year? Maybe he got in with the refs too, I heard him complimenting them during the game. I wish that he was banned from calling Iowa games.

We held Melo down for the most part. We played terrible interior defense but we were still there to the end, move on & get ready for the next game. Rebound better, shoot a little better & we win the next game. These kids will shake it off and get another W

This is a very "gee I'm just glad we're here" way of thinking. We're #3 in the polls, this is a game we could've, should've won. We should be upset about this loss tonight and move on tomorrow.

Maryland for all that talent has a lot of issues. They should have beat us by 20 easy the way we played tonight. By far the worst performance collectively in a long time this season. Hope we are not hitting the wall mentally and physically. We looked sluggish, sloppy and the body language was bad for the first time.

For as bad as we shot as a team and still had a chance to pull it out at the end I say flush it and get ready for next game. Someone needs to tell Gesell that we needed 3 pt shots at the end of the game not 2's,they were giving us those.

No worries. We didn't play well and were right there at the end. I can't envision us losing more than 2 games the rest of the year...if any. We can't play worse; still had a chance; and don't play another team this good until March 12.

No doubt. It was there for the taking. The players are ****** and I'm glad they are. Fran was irritated as well is his postgame.

I'm definitely not worried. Lose by 6 against a top 10 team on the road and your two best players go 7-25 from the floor? If anything, that's got me excited for the stretch run. Nobody in the Big Ten, home or away, is going to beat this team when Uthoff and/or Jok are clicking.

I think Maryland is definitely a top ten team in talent, but they didn't seem to be very overwhelming as a team. Iowa was there toward the end of the game, but its hard to win eight games in a row in the conference. They seemed to be lacking the killer instinct tonight.

Iowa is fortunate that they did not lose by more than 6, Maryland missed a bunch of wide open looks. Gesell dribble driving to the hoop with the clock running out didn't make a lot of sense either. You can't keep swapping 2 points with a team when down by 6 and the clock is under 30 seconds. I did like the effort of the team, Uthoff obviously had a horrible night shooting as did many others. I haven't seen that many airballs by an Iowa team in a long time.

This was sorta my take as well. Our defense was bad in the second half as we left them wide open for 3s all half and they still went 0-10. Really, we could have lost by 15-20 points if they had hit a few of those.

Dakich actually said the last call on Woody was bogus. He actually makes the games more entertaining, his criticism of Woody last year notwithstanding.

I was actually somewhat entertained by dakich last night. Calling out sulaimon because he "was the only person coach k has ever kicked off the team" was awesome.

Also, it uthoff had scored his average, Iowa would have won easily. With jok and uthoff corralled, Iowa still kept it very close on the road versus a top 10 team. I wasn't unhappy

The bad call that cost us the most was the call on the Maryland guy who didn't even touch Gesell. It sent Mike to the line for a 1 and 1 which is the same thing as a turnover. We had a fast break going too.

Think of this - If Hawks make 2 more 3's, they'd still only have shot 29% from behind the arc. If they make 1 more free throw, they'd still only have shot 67% from the line. In other words, if they merely play below average to bad -- which these numbers are -- they STILL WIN!!

Instead, they played really crappy and lost a B14 roadie to a legit top-15 team who really needed the win when the officiating was non-existent, then inconsistent (Maryland made 16 free throws; Hawks attempted 15.)

I expected the loss but, as others have said, was disappointed to see such out-of-character, oh so familair things.
- Terrible defense, especially perimeter. (If Terps shoot their 3-pt avg, Iowa loses by 15.)
- So easily rattled out of the game plan.
- Maryland wanting it more and out-toughing Iowa for it.
- Fran's robotic, automated substitutions, that tend to devolve into hap-hazard, knee-jerk rotations and combos, rather than recognizing and sticking with who's performing this particular game.
Evident with Clemmons (consistent, solid production of offense and best perimeter defender) vs. Mikey (continuous poor decision-making at crucial times and just not clutch at the line) but Wagner deserved some time in the 2nd when Uhl was getting discouraged and needed to protect Woody.

I still believe this team will flush it and persevere rather than press it and falter. The B14 title and a deep run in the dance are there for the taking. It is ultimatum time for Mikey, though, and Clemmons needs to run the offense.
