One thing we can all agree on...

Compared to this time three years ago, damm, this is fun, isn't it?

Forget all our tiring debates about RPI, and KenPom or PomKen or BPI or SOS or SOL...whether we are in or out, this is fun.

Thanks Fran.

Agreed, and I can't wait to see where the program is in 3 more years.

I like what one of the hosts on BTN said last night. Yes, Iowa may be on the bubble because the SOS of non-conference play was weak, but FM was doing it to benefit the young guys and establish some confidence before B1G play. Sure, they could of scheduled different teams and won and get into the tournament easily, but they also could of lost some of those games and dropped a lot of B1G by blowouts. It's easy to say this and that after the fact with any evidence otherwise. He said he thinks the Hawks are a year ahead of schedule and I think most of us would agree. Yes, it would be awesome to see Iowa make the NCAA, but most thought they would be a fringe team. It's just frustrating to see how they got there with all the close losses and blown late leads. Still be a good season and lots to look forward to. Hopefully they can make a run and continue to be a year ahead of schedule.

It's getting there... but the end of this year and next year will really tell us alot.

Next year we should be a contender - let's see how they deal with it and I will know a lot more.

I have to admit arguing everyone about Bubble stuff and RPI is the most fun I have ever had on this website.

I agree. At least we have something to realistically talk about this year, even if we're at each other's throats disagreeing over it all. :p

I'm enjoying it for now. Although eventually, I want to be in a position where Iowa is a little better than needing to win X number of BTT games to sneak into the NCAA's as a low seed. But the program is making progress - it is quite honestly nearly back to where we were for most of the Mr. Davis era. There were lots of 20-10 (9-9) type seasons in the 1990's, too.

You bring up a good point. Sports is so interesting in that the element of chance/luck does play a big role in how things are perceived. Literally, if any of the following things occurs this season this whole argument would be framed differently:

Hollins missed the 3 for Minnesota with 11 seconds to go with Minny down 2.
Jackson's 3 at Wisky with 12 seconds left that hits the front of the rim, hits the top of the backboard, comes right back down through the net. Game over at that point if that shot doesn't go in and Iowa up 3.
Marble's clear look at a 8-footer at the end of regulation at Purdue rims out. Game goes to OT and Iowa loses.

Any of those happen and Fran is praised as knowing exactly what the team needed to gain confidence for the season. In all 3 of those instances, the odds are in Iowa's favor.

In retrospect, yes, Iowa could have helped themselves greatly just by having more teams in the 250 RPI range instead of 300+. And Iowa needs to do a better job of scheduling with RPI in mind. There is a way to do a better job of scheduling easy home wins in the non-con against teams that are merely bad instead of among the worst teams in the country. Other teams have figured it out, we should be able to do so too.

Without a doubt, the team is going to miss May but only losing him and adding Jok, Meyer, Uthoff should be an improvement. But the biggest improvement will be the freshmen turning into sophomores.

I agree with the OP and IF81. It's fun to believe that we are even on the fringe of relevancy .. .. and yes .. it's a year ahead of schedule. I think if most of us are honest, three years ago we would have welcomed the NIT today. The fact that we're even sniffing the Dance today and discussing it in a meaningful manner is a huge bonus.

I, for one, am enjoying the ride!!

GO HAWKS!!!

True that. One other thing is that Marble, Basabe and McCabe will all be seniors. As with May this year, and Gatens the year before - I expect those three to play their best basketball.

First time in a while we will have multiple seniors that will play meaningful minutes.
