One more tealeaf on the Forbes chatter

I know that Forbes is reaching out to every possible connection he has here about the job. I think you can logically draw the conclusion that he has spoken with Bruce about this, who is his boss, and Bruce has probably given it his blessing..which would also mean Bruce isn't going to consider it...its always been a longshot

I see a bunch of Forbes play for the Lone Tree high school basketball team...I'm sure they are related.

Jon....you got it all wrong ;).... Forbes is checking into things FOR Bruce.... yes?!?!?!?! Let the dream live a few more weeks.....

I think if Iowa landed Forbes it would be a good hire. The guy can recruit like hell, and I think he would stick around for a long time, where as another younger assistant may treat Iowa like stepping stone job.

One good thing about hiring a guy like Forbes is that it could happen anytime, regardless of how far Tennessee goes in the tournament?

This is true.

I am a big Forbes guy. Most people know I'm an ISU fan but I think he could do a lot of good things at Iowa. Boilers from TOS said this about Forbes:

Forbes is one of the few guys you could hire with big time recruiting connections, head coaching experience, Iowa ties, cheap AND HE'D PROBABLY NEVER LEAVE no matter how much success he has. If Iowa hired Forbes the'd have Top 100 recruits within a year.

Forbes could be Iowa Basketball's version of Paul Rhoads. Plus he'd probably play an exciting style and IMO recruiting is 90% of the battle.

Pearl was a pipe dream anyway. I have concerns about any asst. recruiter. Because now they will be recruiting and sealing the deal themselves. There is a difference there, nice to make connections and smooze, then hand them over to Pearl, Pitino, Smith, whomever. Am I all wet about that???

If Pearl comes, all of his Iowa-connected assistants probably come, too. So Forbes could be looking for both of them, and everybody else.

Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive!

First of all there are a lot of good points in this thread already. Secondly, Boilers is very knowledgable and for him to say that definitely peaks my interest in Forbes.

I also would have no problem with Forbes. It would be interesting who he would bring in as assistants.

Should be piques my interest...common mistake.

Actually CP, I was saying that the information makes me want to go to a mountain peak and proclaim it to the countryside. Common mistake though.

Forbes should be considered...but
1. The fact that he happens to be from Iowa should just be a nice factoid, not really have any impact on the decision.
2. The notion that he might stay at Iowa longer due to #1 is pretty presumptious...we do not know his mind on that...and first he has to win enough to have fans want him to stay,no certainty.

I want a winner, no matter where he hails from,or even if he is a possible carpetbagger. This program is on the mat, and we need a jolt to get us back in the mix, and if the guy who does that gets us relevant again and then leaves...so be it.
First we need to get back off that mat, no easy task.

If we're willing to go the assistant route, I'm not sure Forbes would be the best candidate. I'm not saying he isn't, I just don't know since I've never heard him speak. Is he more engaging that Lickliter?

It would be interesting to sit in on the committee interviews if they have a chance to meet with the candidates personally. Maybe they could set up a video feed and we can all just vote online for our favorite.

"American Coaching Idol." Yeah, that's the ticket...

I have set up my La-Z-Boy on the Forbes bandwagon.

Freddy, pass me that last 3/8" bolt and a fender washer, I need to secure this thing.
